I Understand it should be possible to achieve bit-perfect playback with an external USB DAC.
On Sony Xperia 5 MKII (and Oneplus 9 Pro) ARC crashes when enabling USB driver and downsamples or (up) to 24/48 with USB-driver disabled. (when starting a stream)
This looks like a DAC issue because my quite awkwardly large Oppo HA-2 doesn’t have an issue and is working fine. Is this something that worth being corrected. (At least for me it is. )
Can you please let us know the exact local time + date + track when you next experience this behavior? We can take a look over the logging to see if there are any specific errors presented.
Still the Hiby FC4 crashes almost direct at startup. Used the lastest version of Roon ARC Version 1.0 (182) I have also again tested the FiiO KA5 thats working fine with this version. Just a few minutes ago
Thank you for the update - we will investigate promptly with the FC4 unit in that case. Do you have an example of a track that was playing or an approximate timestamp of the most recent crash that I can share with QA?
Nothing played at all it crashes direct on initialization. Mid European Timezone +2:00
19:59pm Tried to stream “Home By The Sea - Genesis - Genesis DSD64 DOP” but also 20:04pm normal FLAC Chasing Pavements - Adele - 19 FLAC 16/44 On both occasions it crashes immediately. To let it crash it’s not necessary to play something . Just wait a few seconds and ARC wil freeze. On both occasions I have tried to play the tracks mentioned, Play symbol changed to pause and ARC frozen afterwards But as said it’s not necessary to do that to let it crash, Just wait a few seconds is enough.
Latest version of Roon Arc 1.0.40 build 100202 (With latest Roon Core v2.0 build 1299) did not change the issue above. Still ARC hangs on startup with the Hiby FC4 attached and the USB driver enabled. Though my other USB DAC FiiO KA5 is still working flawlessly…
Please let me know if you take this step and if it’s helpful! Thank you. In the meantime, the team is continuing to investigate a two known issue with USB DACs on ARC and will keep you updated.
Hi Conner.
Thanks for all the efforts. Had to remove Roon Arc because update didn’t work due to conflicts indicated by the apk installer. After that I updated my Roon Core. Then I logged into Roon on Roon Arc and changed the USB-driver setting in Roon ARC. After a restart of Roon Arc I attached my Hiby FC4.
The problem nevertheless still exists. Roon Arc hangs a few seconds after launch. The Fiio KA5 and Oppo HA2 are still working great. Sorry for not being able to report something cheerful.
Hi Connor, The pop-up connecting the USB DAC. Just as with any other USB-DAC. After confirmation ARC is launced and then it freezes. Like this. Behaviour is prior to lauch of Roon ARC us exactly the same as with a dongle that works well. (exept for the freeze within Roon ARC)
This is not the same issue. A Hiby FC4 isn’t working at all on Roon ARC and makes the App crash/hang without any further messages to the user. You should of course have enabled the USB-driver setting in the ARC App. Could you please give some more information about your use-case. By the way the FC4 works fine with Roon Remote on a windows laptop. (Also with DSD files)
