Roon ARC app not working after new router installation (ref#6TIPLB)

Network Setup

· I use a single personal router not provided by my ISP

ARC Status

· ARC is *Not Ready*

Roon Error Code

· None of these are listed. It simply says "TIMEDOUT" or similar.

System or third-party *firewalls *or *antivirus software* can sometimes block RoonServer from reaching ARC.

·
Try adding RoonServer and its associated processes to the whitelist of any firewalls or antivirus software you have installed, including the Windows system firewall, if applicable.
[You can learn more about firewall exceptions with Roon here.](https://help.roonlabs.com/portal/en/kb/articles/firewall)

Has the status in Roon -> Settings -> ARC changed after adding exceptions in your firewalls and antivirus software for Roon?
I don't have any system or third-party firewalls or antivirus software.

Have you successfully located and enabled the UPnP or NAT-PMP settings in your router's web UI?

· I've turned UPnP/ NAT-PMP on and ARC won't connect

Describe the issue

The ARC App is not working. Per trouble shooting, I set up a Port forwarding for the IP address of the Roon Server. The ARC app worked prior to installing a new router. The Roon Arc Setting says Not Ready. I have specified the port number that is displayed in the Roon Arc setting in the Router's Port forwarding screen. I have been trying to troubleshoot since December and really need some help. Can I chat or talk to someone? Any suggestions? thank you..

Describe your network setup

My ISP is spectrum (network and all roon is ok except ARC)... Spectrum Modem but I have a good TP Link Router Deco X4300 Pro (all working except ARC). The OS is on a MacBook Pro Montery 12.7.6 (this is the latest that I can upgrade to due to the age of my MacBook) Thank you.

Can you post the information in the diagnostics screen in Roon Settings/Roon ARC?

Should look something like this (click copy, then paste it into a new post):

Hi @Carl_Cullison,

Thank you for your post. Please share the diagnostic snippet in full, as it may contain relevant information for a specific solution.

Since port forwarding worked prior to the new router installation, the most likely culprit is a second local NAT layer imposed by the Spectrum modem’s router component. I’d first verify that unit is in Bridge mode or similar.

In the Port Forwarding section of the Deco router settings page:

  • Make sure that the rule you’ve created is TCP-protocol
  • Double-check that the port and IP address match Roon Settings.
  • Restart RoonServer after making any changes
  • If the port number already matches, type a different port number into both Roon Settings and the Deco port forwarding settings. Try a few different ranges, like 56000 and 60000, in case the range you’d originally configured has been blocked.

We’ll watch for your response. Thanks!

I tried to get ARC to work since it came out but was only successful after I installed Tailscale VPN on my Mac mini where my roon server is, and my iPhone. Once I did this, Arc worked flawlessly. However, there are still issues. Because Roon crashes frequently, or you have MacOS updates you have to remember to restart roon and Tailscale before you leave the house. Also, if you are away on vacation you will be sunk until you get home and restart your Roon server. Alternatively, I have been using Plex for my remote listening and it is far more reliable and stable. It is free too! Roon should look into what Plex is doing right and apply it to ARC.
