Describe the issue
I have an Xfinity Gateway, a network pod, which currently removed and disconnected, because my research indicated that could be an issue. My Roon server is on a Mac Mini and works fine in the main Roon app. Roon Arc has been working fine on my current setup for months with a Port Forward set up in the Xfinity app advanced settings.
I've deleted and readded the port forward. I've factory reset my gateway/modem. I signed out of the Roon Arc app to try to reconnect.
I am still getting this issue:
Describe your network setup
I have a Mac Mini Roon Server which works fine with regular Roon App. Roon ARC was also working fine in the house on off network. 8 days ago it stopped connected with no changes on my end. So far, I confirmed my port forward was set up, My Xfinity Gateway is an XP7, and I have an extender pod. Troubleshooting recommended I remove the pod, so I did. It recommended I factory reset the gateway and recreate the listening port, so I did. I also disconnected the server from the ARC app, but now it won't reconnect. Of course, I've closed Roon and restarted my computer with the server.
My diagnostics specifically show “multinat_autoconfig”: {“status”:“Success”,“error”:“No Error”,“routers”:“2”} even though there is no second router or mesh system physically on my network.
Also, my Gateway is the XB7, I erroneously said XP7.
Thank you for the screenshot. We can see your Roon Server is at IP 10.0.0.68 — this is a 10.0.0.x subnet.
The question is: which device is assigning addresses in the 10.0.0.x range? Your XB7 gateway typically assigns 10.0.0.x addresses by default, so your port forwarding rule on the XB7 should be pointing to 10.0.0.68. Could you confirm:
In your Xfinity app port forwarding settings, what IP address is the rule pointing to? It should be 10.0.0.68
Is the rule set to TCP protocol?
Is the external port the same as the internal port (55002 as shown in your screenshot)?
Also, one more thing to check: Xfinity sometimes uses CGNAT (Carrier-Grade NAT) which means your home router does not have a true public IP and port forwarding will not work regardless of how it is configured. To verify, compare the actual_external_ip shown in your diagnostics (73.aaa.bbb.ccc) with what you see at whatismyip.com from your home network. If they match - you have a real public IP and port forwarding should work. If they differ - contact Xfinity and request a dedicated public IP.
Thanks for your help. When this all wasn’t working, I had also tried to set up Tellscale. I forgot to mention that in my post. I uninstalled it on my phone and my computer before looking at the steps you outlined.
When I went to ARC settings on the Roon desktop app. it showed as connected once again. My phone app is also now working. I still need to test it off network, but this is great news.
I’m not sure if a step I had taken previously fixed it, because I was trying so much.
I wanted to add one quick note: it is very possible that Roon ARC is showing as “Ready” because you are essentially bypassing the need for traditional port forwarding entirely.
Since you mentioned you were experimenting with Tailscale, if you have an active Tailscale “exit node” or are simply connected to the same Tailscale network on both your Roon Server and your phone, the app is likely establishing a direct connection through that secure tunnel rather than relying on the XB7 Gateway’s port mapping.
You can safeley ignore the error message in the Settings → ARC
