Roon ARC for Desktop / Laptop (Windows, Mac, Linux)

What you are describing could be achieved by buying some entry-tier tablet for use just with Roon. For digital out, you could use an external DAC via USB dongle of the tablet.

But that is besides the point, people would like to use Arc on desktop computers and laptops without having to pull out their tabled or phone.

Another vote for this. About to travel for a while and would prefer being able to listen from my laptop rather than my phone.

Do people realize Roon ARC on a phone can utilize unlimited cellular data (if you have it), while Roon ARC on a laptop would utilize cellular hotspot data that is usually not unlimited or throttled if it is?

Well, that is if you are using cellular data. I guess it’s moot if you are somewhere you have an unlimited WIFI data source.

Defenitly a must have! Roon ARC native iPad/Tablet solution and macos app. Please! Make my decision for an expensive lifetime license easier!

All I want for Christmas is roon ARC on my PC at work

Roon ARC for my office MAC is at the top of my Xmas list as well.

I was recently thinking exactly what Dave Sandifer called out. The delay may be concerns about multi-user access. I would think there would be a way to regulate Roon ARC on Desktop software, even if it’s as simple as limiting to one install per subscription. That would not be ideal but better than no Roon ARC for desktop.

I think limiting the number of active “authorized devices” is what you’re imagining and I believe that’s probably the way that RoonLabs should go about it.

This is already a scheme implemented by Apple Music. Only 5 devices total are allowed to be actively logged in and authorized in Apple Music at one time. If another one desires to join, one of the previous devices must be deauthorized first, prioritizing the longest inactive one.

I’m excatly in the same situation. That would be ideal indeed.

I agree. this is a no brainer. hell, a web app would be better than nothing. I want to browse and discover music while I’m at work, and tag it for later listening.

iPhone mirroring could be a great alternative?

iPhone mirroring works great, there is just one big flaw: you cannot scroll in Roon Arc. Every other app I have tested allows me to scroll. So I guess that’s just a small issue to fix and then we would have a nice solution.

I couldn’t agree more with all posts above. A standalone Mac & Windows PC app would be amazing and very likely expand the user base of Roon.

So, I just finished migrating my Roon Rock install over to Roon Server on Ubuntu Server 24.04
( I did the minimal install so had to add those various dependencies mentioned.)

I got it going without too much bother. I have even restored my backup config from the old Roon Rock setup. Yay!!
The reason I did it, was to try to get ZeroTier setup as per others advice on this community.
TailScale let me get ARC working but I wanted to try out this cunning plan which allows me to use Roon Remote ( on Android ) over my 5G connection when away from home base.
Also, the next thing I am going to try is joining my parents home Chromecast with Google TV to the same ZeroTier network. It is supposed to be possible by side loading an APK.
What I am hoping to achieve is to have this remote Chromecast device as an Audio output device from my homes Roon Server, whilst inside the ZeroTier network.
This will allow me to play to parents Chromecast , all of my Music library, as well as get access to all my Live Radio links, which is not an option in Roon ARC sadly.

In conclusion, I suggest you try out ZeroTier, and give Roon ARC the heave ho !!!

Bless.;p

Whilst using this (and other equivalent solutions) solutions to present remote devices as part of the local network may work from a networking point of view, it should be noted that, for Roon, because the server to endpoint transmission latencies are much, much greater and subject to conditions outside of your control there is no guarantee that it will be reliable.

Even if ZeroTier, or, in my case, an OpenVPN TAP tunnel, appear to work for you, there is no guarantee that they will work for the next person. Indeed, there is not even a guarantee that they will work for you tomorrow.

Fair enough. All music streaming over any network has an inherent lack of guarantee I guess. The phrase ‘your mileage may vary’ is perhaps needed for all such exploration outside the ‘supported’ guidelines.
I’m putting Roon Remote, on my phone over ZeroTier, through it’s paces at work today. So far so good. Output is to my Bluetooth headphones, and I’m getting a Green ( High Quality ) Signal path.
I will report back once I try adding another remote Chromecast audio output.

Thanks.
