· Using Roon ARC app on iPhone, browsing My Library via Albums sorted by Random. If I select "..." and then "Play Now" whenever a multidisc album comes up, Roon ARC doesn't handle multidisc albums normally. It plays every disc's 1st track, and then every disc's 2nd track and so on instead of playing all of Disc 1 tracks, then Disc 2 tracks, then Disc 3 tracks.
Thanks for describing the order it actually plays in, that is the useful part.
A few things would help us reproduce it:
Which album is it? Please give us the artist, title, file format, and how many discs.
How are the discs tagged? Please check the DISCNUMBER and TRACKNUMBER fields on a few tracks, and whether the album sits in one folder or one folder per disc.
Does the same album play in the correct order in Roon on a desktop or tablet remote? That tells us whether this is specific to Roon ARC.
Does it still happen if you open the album and press Play, rather than using the “…” menu from the Albums list?
Having the files here for testing would help as well. Please upload a couple of tracks from each disc using this link:
Have you had a chance to look over our previous questions? If there is any clarification needed, please let us know, otherwise we’ll be standing by when you’re ready to pick this back up.
Hi very sorry for the delayed response. I made the post and then went out of town with almost no data service!
1. It seems to be all multidisc collections greater than 1. Sending pics showing Roon ARC when I select play albums randomly in this case s Pearl Jam 2 disc concert from 2003 is one of the first albums generated and the tracks are played in numerical order ignoring disc number. If I select only that album in Roon ARC instead of Random play, the tracks play correctly disc 1 first, and once disc 1 is complete the disc 2 tracks start. Music library is FLAC format.
2. Attaching screen shot showing how the tracks are tagged from mp3tag. In this case each disc has its own folder within the album folder.
3. Desktop Roon has no issues with playback whenever I select Random album play from there. I’ve only seen this behavior in Roon ARC on my iPhone and again it is consistent for every multidisc album that has been played in this sequence
4. Answered in #2, only happens during when selecting “…” after Randomly sorting the albums.
I will add the same library has been used at home for years via Logitech (Lyrion) Media Server and I also do a lot of play Random album from that, and have never experienced any problem like this.
With the attached pics, the mp3tag screenshot shows the tagging and sequencing that I would expect based on that. There are 2 Roon ARC screen shots, 1 showing the incorrect order (after Random sort, “…”) and the 2nd showing the correct order after selecting only the specific album.
Again, sorry for the delay, and thank you for your patience and response,
No need to apologise for the delay, and the detail was worth waiting for.
This is a known issue in Roon ARC, and your report has gone to the team handling it. Your tags are correct and there is nothing to fix on your side.
In the meantime, the way around it is the one you already found: open the album and press Play rather than using the “…” menu from the Albums list. That queues the discs in the right order.
