I was used to the fact that every time I do not use Roon ARC for a couple of weeks (usually over the winter) and I want to use ARC again, I have to update the app on my Android phone and it takes a couple of tries to get ARC up and running again. Disclaimer, I only use Roon ARC at home via Wifi, no outside use at all.
No luck this time though.
In the Roon core/server/whatever under Roon ARC everything is tested and fine to connect to Roon ARC.
On my Android phone I should login again to my Roon account and for this the app is switching to the browser and I typ in my user name and password and I get and “invalidrecaptcha” error. So no login and no ARC for me here.
I try my iPhone. Here login to Roon ARC is possible (same user name and password as on the Android phone) and ARC sees the server and connects. Then I have to chose the Roon user and then connection always breaks off due to a server problem.
Does anybody has an idea what is happening on either off my phones?
Android phone is up and running again.
I needed to go a step further this time and not only update the Roon ARC app but also the whole Xiaomi Hyper OS…
No solution unfortunately.
I nearly had it.
I realised that Xiaomi Hyper OS is not optimal with Roon ARC as it is not supported by the beta USB driver of ARC which allows bit perfect streaming to a USB DAC. That is the reason why I use ARC and not the Roon remote app.
So I took my older Samsung Android phone started Roon ARC, connection worked immediately, but the same behaviour as with the iPhone. After syncing with the server, there is the menu where it asked for the current user/profile. When I chose my profile Roon Arc loses connection to the server and I should reconnect.
Error message:
“There is an issue with your Roon Server. Your Roon Server is online but there is an issue that’s preventing access. Goto to the Roon app for more information.”
I am going to type out my findings in hopes that you may find some help.
All of my issues seem to be traced back to my ISP and their ever changing policies and network configurations. I have been able to enjoy a very stable Roon Arc experience in one of two ways.
Tailscale: if you haven’t tried it, please do. It is simple to set up and works on most (if not all) devices and is approved for use by the Roon team.
I use Uniquiti/Unifi for my home network and they have a handy little app called WifiMan. WifiMan, similar to tailscale, sets up a quick VPN to my home network and allows Roon Arc to remotely connect to my Roon Server.
All that to say: I think Roon Arc works really well! The CarPlay side has trouble with large libraries and playlists, but I can deal with that.
Today, I simply tried it again on my Samsung M11 and it worked.
Don’t know why now, as I have not changed anything.
Also USB beta drivers works, so bit perfect to dongle is also back again.
I am ready for the summer season.
