Describe the issue

Hello,

I’ve spent several evenings and a few full hours trying to get Roon ARC to work reliably. Despite a “Ready” status in the ARC settings and having followed all official instructions – reinstalling the app, testing on multiple devices, resetting configurations, checking ports, disabling VPN and Private Relay – ARC simply fails to connect.

It turns out the issue is caused by network limitations (CGNAT and lack of NAT loopback), which were not clearly documented or explained. As a user, I shouldn’t need to know or troubleshoot this level of networking just to stream music remotely.

While I’ve now decided to continue using Roon without ARC – only on my local network – I do feel it’s fair to request some form of compensation, such as a free month or two of Roon service, in light of the time and effort I’ve put in.

Thanks for understanding.

Best regards,

I share your frustration, ARC is 100% unreliable for me and I’ve tried all of the recommendations/fixes.
Regarding your issue with CGNAT, not all broadband providers use it so Roon can’t really be expected to know what every provider uses or indeed their configuration. That is why Roon support have “provided” Tailscale as an option to work around the CGNAT limitations (That said, performance improves but ARC is still completely unreliable when I use Tailscale).

Tailscale setup details can be found here

Finally, don’t hold your breath waiting for compensation…

Hello @Olli_Sundqvist.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience — I completely understand how frustrating and time-consuming this must have been, especially after following all the official guidance and still encountering issues. In such cases, we recommend reaching out ot the Support team to get the right direction.

The good news is that we’ve introduced a solution for cases like yours. If your network environment is limited by CGNAT or lacks NAT loopback, Roon ARC can now work without traditional port forwarding by using Tailscale, a secure and easy-to-set-up VPN alternative.

We’d love for you to give this new option a try — it’s been a game-changer for many users in similar situations.

Thanks again for your patience and for being a part of the Roon community.
