Roon ARC not connecting due to port confusion on Xfinity router (ref#UP48UC)

Network Setup

· My only router was provided by my ISP

ARC Status

· ARC is *Not Ready*

Roon Error Code

· None of these are listed. It simply says "TIMEDOUT" or similar.

System or third-party *firewalls *or *antivirus software* can sometimes block RoonServer from reaching ARC.

·
Try adding RoonServer and its associated processes to the whitelist of any firewalls or antivirus software you have installed, including the Windows system firewall, if applicable.
[You can learn more about firewall exceptions with Roon here.](https://help.roonlabs.com/portal/en/kb/articles/firewall)

Has the status in Roon -> Settings -> ARC changed after adding exceptions in your firewalls and antivirus software for Roon?
ARC is still *Not Ready*

Don't give up yet.

· I'm stuck. I'd like to create a post to ask Roon Community for help.

Describe the issue

ARC is not connecting with automatic configuration. I have Roon on a Mac Mini. I use Xfiniti's router.
I thought I set up manual configuration, in my Router, but it is completely confusing which port to use. When I use Roon on my Laptop and go to ARC settings, the port shown is listed as 55002 for the server (10.0.0.203). However, when I am on the server itself (has no screen, so can only use Screen Sharing to see it) the port is shown as 49245 for the same IP (10.0.0.203) So: Which one is it? How do I make sure I set the port? Why is it not using the default (55000)? Which setting has precedence?

Describe your network setup

ISP: Xfinity
Xfinity supplied router: XB8 (Technicolor), revision 2.0
Roon Server connected via Ethernet (but Wifi also enabled as a backup) IP address used in Roon is from Ethernet connection, but IPv6 lists an incorrect adddress (can't seem to find a way to change that setting in Roon)
Roon Server OS: Mac OS Ventura 13.3.1

Hi @Markus_Bohunovsky,

Thank you for your post. For simplicity’s sake, I recommend bypassing port forwarding entirely and using Tailscale: https://help.roonlabs.com/portal/en/kb/articles/tailscale-setup-instructions-macos-roonserver

Otherwise, we’d be happy to troubleshoot.

What port have you configured in the manual rule in the Xfinity app?

Let’s clarify a few details:

If the manual rule has either a) a port range configured or b) no port configured at all, RoonServer and the router’s UPnP stack will negotiate a port opening anytime you restart RoonServer or refresh the Roon Settings → ARC configuration page by hitting the refresh button.

The IPv6 address listed in your WiFi settings is the router’s IPv6 address, not RoonServer’s.

Whatever rule you type into the port assignment in Roon Settings is the rule RoonServer will use with the router. Only firmware updates or changes to network security would overhaul a manual rule. If you haven’t created a manual rule or typed a value into the Roon Settings → ARC port assignment, RoonServer will then still be negotiating a port with the router.

Let us know if this makes sense. Thanks!
