Roon ARC on Astell & Kern SP3000

Have any of you been successful running Roon ARC on the Astel & Kern SP3000?

It runs fine in my SP3000M but using the same network and Roon Core the SP3000 just keeps looking for the server never finding it.

I am running firmware 1.51CM on the SP3000 and have tried several different version of Roon ARC.

Some of them give me an error after trying to log in and the ones I am abel to log in they just keep looking for the server.

I know it is not my network or sever because the SP3000M and my iPhone can connect with no problem.

It took a year and 3 firmware updates for my A&K Kahn Ultra to ā€œfinallyā€ be able to download updated(current) ARC. A&K dap’s sound great, are well made but I would not buy A&K if ARC connectivity is priority. The ā€œcustom Androidā€ OS is to say the least not the greatest.

I can see why something like Roon ARC is not a priority for them. What is strange to me is why it works in my SP3000M and not on the SP3000 using the same network and Roon server.
The SP3000M is the same player just in a smaller and lighter case and DAR done via software insteaed of hardware.

Last time I tried to install it on my sp 3000 I got a captcha error and was informed by roon that ak was working on it. Have you been able to install it? [as to the M, it’s a newer model and may never have had the issue]

Yes, the installation has not been a problem. I have been able to install several different versions.
I have ran into two diffeent issues. Some versions were giving me an error after trying to log in and I found a workaround that. The issue with all of them is that the SP3000 running Roon ARC never finds my Roon server.

I know it is not a network or server issue because the SP3000M finds it find as well as my iPhone so it has to be something related with the SP3000 either hardware or firmware.

that’s interesting because I couldn’t install it earlier this year, and was told that AK was working on the issue. I may try it again, but I don’t really need it because I only use the sp-3000 for offline listening of my own albums. Here’s the thread Roon Arc not working on Astell&Kern SP3000 (ref#LEFXNR)

Roon ARC works on my SP3000 using the latest sideload from roon. In order to sign in I had to sideload the chrome browser and make it the default. I was advised to do this by their rep @JasonNYC on the head-fi sp3000 thread.

thanks for this

I didn’t know there was a browser on the sp-3000. And how did you download chrome on it?

What is the version of roon ARC you are running?
I installed Chrome per A&K advise. I tried the lattes Roon ARC version and two provius ones and I still have the issue of Roon ARC not finding my server. I am connected to the same network with the SP300M and ARC runs find there. I just cen’t figure out why the SP3000 cannot find the server.

Sorry, dap is not available to check. I always run the most current from the roon downloads page. On the sp3k try forgetting your wifi, reboot dap and then reconnect that wifi. One last thing, force stop ARC app, delete the data and cache and then restart it.

Hi - I’m trying to get Roon ARC running on my SP3000 but there’s huge issues signing in. My Roon server does recognise the device though. This is the issue: is this where I sideload chrome?

Yes, you need to download and install Chrome and then go to setting and select it as your browser.
Send me your email address and can send you the APK I got from A&K to use.

After installing it and selected I had to perform a settings reset for it to work but try first without the settings rest.

thank you! this is really helpful. I’ll DM you

How did it work? The SP-3000 is fantastic but I only use it when I am walking the dog and it’s easy enough to transfer albums from my library but I might at some point decide to use it differently although I believe this fix is no longer required on the SP 4000

To use Roon ARC is the same like streaming live Tidal or QoBuz, you must be connected to a WiFi network. If you are on the go your option is to set your cell phone as a hotspot and then connect your DAP to the network created by your phone. You will be dependent to the cell connection.

The SP4000 is the first A&K with a ā€œsemi-openā€ Android system. It is still not a fully open system but it is not closed as in previous generations DAPs. Because of this you have more freedom to go to the Google store to download apps like Chrome and many others.

Yes it works! It takes a bit of puzzling: copy the APK package to the ā€œopen servicesā€ folder, rather than to ā€˜download’ in that folder. Then it’s simple to install. Now it works smoothly.

Thank you!
