Roon ARC setup causing playback buffering issues with Qobuz (ref#EPN1RA)

Network Setup

· I use a single personal router not provided by my ISP

ARC Status

· ARC is *Ready*

Describe the issue

i don’t know what any of this port forwarding or whatever means. i don’t know computers. want to make that clear. im trying to set up roon arc for listening away from home but the songs buffet forever and never start playing (but they show up in my library). most of my music is from qobuz if that makes a difference.

Describe your network setup

i run roon on my macbook idk what this all means honestly

Hello @Marley_McDermott,

Thanks for explaining — that’s helpful.

To narrow this down, I just need a few clarifications:

  1. Who is your internet service provider (ISP)?
  2. Does ARC behave the same way when you are on mobile data (cellular) compared to when you are connected to another Wi-Fi network outside your home?
  3. Have you set up any port forwarding on your router, or have you not changed any router settings at all?
  4. Please share a screenshot of the Roon app → Settings → Roon ARC page on your Mac.

Once we have this, we can better understand what’s blocking playback.

  1. My ISP is Verizon
  2. I’m not sure, I haven’t had an opportunity to try to use it while connected to another Wifi network. However, when I am at home and turn off the wifi on my phone, it streams music, but once I go to my car it no longer streams.
  3. I haven’t set anything up and i dont know how to

Also, when I just opened Roon on my Mac, I noticed all of my music from Qobuz was missing from my library and only local files appear - I tried to sync my library, but it only added the two new songs I’d liked on Qobuz since yesterday but not the rest of my library.

Hello @Marley_McDermott

Thanks for the clarification — that helps a lot.

Based on your description, this behavior is something we’ve seen before with Verizon connections. In some cases, Verizon’s network handling can interfere with the way Roon ARC maintains connectivity once you move between networks (for example, leaving home Wi-Fi and switching fully to mobile data while driving).

The fact that:

  • ARC works at home when Wi-Fi is turned off, but
  • stops streaming once you’re in the car

suggests this is network-related, not an issue with your Roon setup or server.

As a quick test/workaround, we recommend trying one of the following:

  • A public VPN app on your phone (any standard VPN is fine), or
  • Tailscale, which creates a secure tunnel between your phone and your Roon Server and bypasses ISP-related routing issues.

Many users on Verizon have found that using a VPN or Tailscale immediately resolves this exact symptom.

If you’d like a simple step-by-step instructions for setting up Tailscale you can find it here.

Please let us know if using a VPN changes the behavior.

I’ll try this soon. Can I also ask for your help with most of my Qobuz library not showing up in my Roon library? The only music from Qobuz that’s showing up is a few songs I’ve liked in the past ~24 hours since the rest of my Qobuz library disappeared. I tried to Sync the library and it did not work.

Hello @Marley_McDermott

Thank you for the update.

Would you kindly provide more details regarding your last request? Is it related to the Roon or Roon ARC ? And if you see any differences between this two applications ?

Hi @Marley_McDermott,

First, sign into the Qobuz native app or web player with the same credentials, just to double-check that the same library content is available there.

If you see the missing content hasn’t been removed from Qobuz itself, then sign fully out of your Qobuz account within the Qobuz UI. Navigate to Roon and sign out there, as well.

Next, restart RoonServer fully. Login to Qobuz in Settings → Services and force a manual sync.

Let us know if you don’t then see your Qobuz content start to repopulate in Roon. We’ll follow up with next steps.

Thank you!

Thanks Connor that worked perfectly! And sorry Vadim I just got a new phone and haven’t been working on this but I will soon!

Hello @Marley_McDermott
