Describe the issue

I have signed up for the free trial to try Roon but I can't use Roon Arc. It shows "Poor connection" immediately. This is via wifi6/5g to 300Mbps fibre NAS. Plex works absolutely fine, even with video. What's going on?

Describe your network setup

Samsung 24+ phone via wifi6 and 5g router connection to Qnap NAS with M2 cards. Fast connection via other apps but Arc says "poor connection"!

Not an Android guy, but from what I see, both, cell and WiFi aren’t perfect. Do you have an idea which way you are connecting to the core actually?

I have no problem accessing other apps from the NAS. Plex streams audio and video perfectly via same.
Note the the poor connection flashes up immediately so doesn’t even appear to try. Syncs 500 albums very quickly. Some settings issue?

Both Android and iOS show the wifi and cell icons in the notification bar if the phone is on wifi - after all, it is connected to a cell tower anyway but would use wifi for data in this case. I have never ever heard about there being a problem with this.

I meant that both, cell and WiFi don’t show full (5 out of 5) reception level.
Especially for WiFi at home this sometimes indicates problems.

Oh, I misunderstood. Yeah maybe worth trying to move to closer to the wifi, though WiFi 6 with 1 bar missing should be plenty good enough.

@ian I’d try uninstalling and reinstalling ARC, then try again

Also, and that’s why I said “not an Android guy” at least iOS (means Apple) asks for permission per app to access the local network. If that was denied (in Android) I would assume the ARC business is happening using cell service.

Good point

Surely the message wouldn’t be poor connection but no connection. It connects to my NAS immediately on start up (yes i did uninstall and reinstall) and syncs the catalogue. Only when I come to play audio does the message come up.

My phone connects to a 5g router and that connects across to my NAS at home. That is FTTP 300Mbps.

Just earlier i was watching a 4k Movie on Netflix over that connection without a hitch.

Roon ARC doesn’t lke something but what? As i said before i can use Plex and play without a problem.

I wouldn’t put too much trust into ARC messages always accurately reflecting the condition.

This may be a network configuration issue that may not be easy to trace initally, In ithe interim, it may make sense to try Tailscale which is very reliable and has solved ARC issues for many Roon uses (me included):

Ok. Not making me confident about using Roon. I guess that’s why they offer a free trial.

Hi @ian ,

Welcome to the forum and happy holidays. Are you still seeing the issue at the present time? If you try to use the regular Roon app and navigate to Roon Settings → ARC, are there any specific errors displayed? Is there any change in behavior if you try to reinstall ARC? Let us know!

Hi @ian,

This is @beka with the Roon accounts team. We appreciate you sharing your experience with Roon in the early free trial days, as well as for reaching out to our technical team to help troubleshoot the connectivity issue.

We wouldn’t want you spending your free trial troubleshooting, so we’ve taken the liberty to extend your trial. You can see your new free trial end date when you log into your account page.

Thank you for your collaboration :raised_hands:
