How am I supposed to troubleshoot this? My iPhone (connected to wifi on the same network as the Roon Server) has spent 30+ minutes at “Syncing with Roon Server for the first time…”
This isn’t actually the first time it’s connected so that’s not accurate.
And there’s no progress bar or indicator so I have no idea if it’s 0% synched or 99%. I can’t tell if it’s progressing or if it’s stuck. There’s zero useful feedback to tell me anything while I sit here, poking my phone with my fingertip every 30 seconds, to keep it from going to sleep.
Hi, @Neil_Carpenter, we will review the diagnostics report from your machine.
In the meantime, could you please clarify, what do you mean exactly when saying that Roon ARC does not work at all on the production build? Do you have a support topic related to this problem on the production build?
I didn’t open a support topic but I saw others with the same problem (illustrated here: Intermittent Disappearance of Audio Devices on Roon Server (ref#P7CVHA) - #42 by rolski) and a suggestion it was fixed in the Early Access build, which appears to be the case (at least for me – prod build, ARC reports not working with no external IP and blank diagnostics, EA build, the ARC settings page indicates success).
After restarting the Roon app a few times on the iPhone, it seem to have completed the sync for now. There was no indication of why it didn’t work or what resolved it and, obviously, I expect this will happen again in the future.
How do I check the progress of initial sync to see if it’s stuck?
What causes it to hang like this, requiring the app to be manually restarted?
Unfortunately, there is no way to check the progress. We have a task open for the product team to think about improvements in this area
There is no clear answer to this one, sorry. We have investigated cases like this with relatively large libraries and it looks like there is a race condition which is hard to reproduce.
Same here, sorry. On QA team’s behalf I can say that we are trying to make this reproducible for the dev team but in the meantime we are also gathering info from reports like yours, hoping that they might bring some clarity.
