Roon ARC unable to connect while away from home (ref#QTYED4)

Network Setup

· Do you have a mesh network? (Google Mesh, Eeros, Ubiquiti, etc.)

ARC Status

· ARC is *Ready*

Describe the issue

Have nucleus one, says ARC is ready; however, when in my car away from home, cannot connect. I use an iPhone when away from home via ARC app.

Describe your network setup

Nucleus One, Wifi thru Verizon (hard wired, ethernet), iPhone with ARC app installed

Hello @Shannon_Hale1,

Thanks for the details.

Just to clarify how this works: ARC availability is verified from our servers, not from your iPhone.
So when Roon reports that ARC is Ready, it means your Nucleus One is reachable from the internet in general.

If ARC shows Ready but your iPhone cannot connect while you’re away from home, this typically indicates that the connection path from your phone’s network is being blocked or altered.

Please check the following on your iPhone:

  • Make sure there is no VPN enabled (including iCloud Private Relay, corporate VPNs, or similar)
  • Check that there are no firewall / security / DNS-filtering apps active
  • If you’re using Tailscale or another tunnel, please disable it and test again
  • Try connecting ARC while on a different external network, for example:
    • a different Wi-Fi network
    • a public Wi-Fi hotspot
instead of your mobile carrier’s data connection

Let us know:

  • whether any VPN or security features were enabled
  • and whether ARC works when tested from a different external network

That will help us narrow this down further.

Hi @Shannon_Hale1,

If you connect your phone via cellular data (disable WiFi if at home), what do you see in the connectivity section of the settings page in ARC itself?

Some users with Verizon find that they need to change the port number in Roon Settings → ARC every so often if they are relying on automatic configuration.

Please let us know if this helps.
