Roon ARC was unable to securely access to your roon core

Hi
I am having a problem with connection to my roon core through my mobile (Roon Arc). When I check the connection on my roon app it says :

{"connectivity": {"status":"NetworkError","status_code":504,"error":"error: Error: ETIMEDOUT, response code: undefined, body: undefined connected? undefined"},
"external_ip": {"actual_external_ip":"77.ddd.eee.fff","actual_external_ipv6":"null","router_external_ip":"null"},
"natpmp_autoconfig": {"status":"NotFound"},
"upnp_autoconfig": {"server_ip":"192.___._._","found_upnp":true,"error":"doaction request return statuscode: UnknownError"}
}

The router is Arris. I have cxn v2 and nucleus connected by wire to the router.
Any ideas how to solve the issue ?
Darek

Welcome to the Roon community, @Dariusz_Wnuk1.

The diagnostics you’ve provided suggest that UPnP is not properly configured on your router.

Please first try the following steps:

  • Try to enable UPnP/NATPMP in the web administration interface for the router directly upstream from your Core
  • Try to manually open the port in your router’s port forwarding configuration
  • Make sure the IP/Port matches the Port listed in Roon → Settings → ARC
  • Check for any VPNs or Firewalls that might be interfering
  • Check if your modem is in Bridge mode

If you continue to experience difficulties, please tag the support team and include the following information:

  1. What is the make and model of your modem and router?
  2. Do you have any additional network hardware, like additional routers or managed switches?
  3. Who is your internet service provider and what is your geographic region?
  4. Is your Modem configured in Bridge Mode so that it operates only as a modem or do you have the ports forwarded on both?

Hi @Dariusz_Wnuk1,

I would suggest you turn of upnp on your router and create a manual port forwarding.

First in the Roon app under Settings —> Roon Arc write down the ip address and port number.

Please watch below video on how to create a port forwarding on the Arris (probably not your exact model, but I hope it’s enough)

Maarten

Thank you very much for the advice. I will try it and let you know if that helped!

So I tried what you have suggested, I turned off UPNP and provided port forwarding manually:

Service Name: RoonARC

Service Type: TCP

Internal Port(s): 49714~49714

External Port(s): 49714~49714

Server IPv4: 192.168.0.108

and port triggering also manually (the same paarameters), but I was unable to type the same Service type. So, for port forwarding I have : TCP and for port triggering: UDP. When I typed the same value for both I was not able to click save neither of them (Conflict with Port Triggering service. Please check ports!). I have Arris TG3442S router.
Unfortunately it still does not work. I am not able to access roon arc remotely.
Do you have idea whot to do next?

Darek

Right now Roon displays message lke this:
{
“connectivity”: {“status”:“NetworkError”,“status_code”:504,“error”:“error: Error: ETIMEDOUT, response code: undefined, body: undefined connected? undefined”},
“external_ip”: {“actual_external_ip”:“77.ddd.eee.fff”,“actual_external_ipv6”:“null”,“router_external_ip”:“null”},
“natpmp_autoconfig”: {“status”:“NotFound”},
“upnp_autoconfig”: {“status”:“NotFound”}
}

The latest diagnostics you’ve provided still suggest that UPnP (or port forwarding) is not properly configured on your router.

From Roon > Settings > Roon ARC, please confirm the port and IP address of your core. Is this 49714 or something like 5500x?

Hi Martin,

I have checked it and my port is: 49714. I have attached a photo of my diagnostic screen taken form roon app.

and screens form my router settings:

Thank you for any idea :slight_smile:

Hi Darek,
You could also check if IPv6 connection is completely disabled in your router settings.
I see that you use IPv4 for your core but if the router’s settings permit also IPv4 it could produce this type of errors (at least it was so in my case before I disabled IPv6).

Can you remove port triggering? If my understanding is correct, the port is normally closed, and only opened when an outgoing connection is made. This won’t work if ARC is attempting a connection from outside your network. Moreover, the service type is TCP.

@ipeverywhere, would you mind having a look?

Hi Martin, Wlodek

thank you for your reply.
I removed port triggering , unfortunatelly this did not bring any positives.I made some screens from other settings, also from IPv6 (as Wlodek suggested). I think that this connection is disabled in my settings, I have made some tests.

It appears that ipv6 is not enabled but I’m not sure if maybe the 2 checked boxes on the ipv6 image should be unchecked.

You don’t want ipv6 dhcp and ipv6 to ipv4 dns relay.

Everything looks grayed and inactive but who knows… :thinking:

Hi,
recently I talk to IT guys at my work and they told me that in order to connect remotely (from the outside of my house) I need to receive static IP address. They told me that Roon arc is not able to connect with my router because I have dynamic address at the moment. I wrote an emiali to internet provider and received info from them that they can provide my static address but I need to pay for that monthly.
So, my question to you is , do you think that lack of static address could be a reason why I can not connect to my router via Roon Arc on my phone?

Thanks for reply

Hi @Dariusz_Wnuk1,

As far as i know, i dynamic IP address should not be an issue to make Roon Arc work. Maybe @support can clarify this. Did you have a look at the reply of @ffk? Did you unchecked the 2 boxes on ipv6?

Kind regards,

Maarten.

As @Maarten_Duits says, a static address isn’t essential. However, what you do need is an IPV4 address. I’m currently using a dynamic IP with my ISP; in my experience these rarely change.

I suspect your issue is that port forwarding still isn’t set up correctly.

Can you confirm that you disabled UPnP, and followed the port forwarding help in Maarten’s earlier post:

Hi Martin, Maarten,

yes I can confirm that UPnP is disabled and I have provided port forwarding manually. I Have also unchecked the 2 boxes on ipv6. Pictures below.

Hi @Dariusz_Wnuk1.

Sad to hear Roon Arc isn’t working for you now. I’m running out of options, so i can’t help you any further. I hope @support can help you.

Regards,

Maarten.

I’d change the DNS settings (first screenshot) to 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 since it is possible that your ISP is blocking some requests.

Martin, did you mean these settings?

Yes, that’s the settings.

The IPs I provided are for Cloudflare, but Google, Quad9, and a few others provide very fast and reliable public DNS.
