Hello @zvl02623,

Thank you for reaching out and for your detailed report.

After we enabled diagnostic mode on your account, we can see that RAATServer is failing to start properly. This typically happens when a local security process — such as antivirus, firewall, or endpoint protection software — blocks Roon’s internal communication loopback (127.0.0.1).

Please try the following steps to narrow this down:

  1. Restart your computer and any connected audio devices.
  2. Temporarily disable antivirus or security software (for example, Windows Defender, McAfee, Norton, etc.) and then launch Roon again.
  3. Check the Windows Firewall settings:
    • Open Windows Security → Firewall & network protection → Allow an app through firewall.
    • Ensure that both Roon.exe and RAATServer.exe are allowed on Private and Public networks.
  4. Inspect the Windows Event Viewer:
    • Go to Event Viewer → Windows Logs → Application.
    • Look for any warnings or errors mentioning Roon or RAATServer around the time you tried to start the app.
    • If possible, attach a copy or screenshot of these entries.
  5. After completing these steps, reboot the PC once more and check if RAATServer launches correctly.
Please let us know:
  • Whether RAATServer now starts after reboot,
  • If you find any relevant entries in the Event Viewer,
  • And whether your security software showed any notifications related to Roon or RAATServer.
This information will help us determine whether a local security layer is preventing RAATServer from starting, or if something else is interfering with Roon’s background services.

Hi @zvl02623,

Have you had a chance to try the steps that @vadim provided above?

Roon updates often reset the Windows Defender firewall to default settings, which can block RAATServer.exe. Please ensure you’ve added Roon’s processes as exceptions to the firewall.

Do you have any consumer VPNs active on the machine with which you use Roon?

We’ll watch for your response. Without any new posts from the OP, this thread will close due to inactivity after several days. Thank you!

Hello @zvl02623,

Thank you very much for providing the Event Viewer details — they’re extremely helpful. The entry you’ve shared indicates that RAATServer.exe is crashing due to an unhandled exception in the .NET runtime.

This usually happens when the .NET 6 runtime installation on Windows becomes corrupted or when Windows security software interferes with Roon’s background services. Let’s try the following steps to repair this:

  1. Repair or reinstall the .NET 6 Desktop Runtime
  • Download the latest version of the .NET 6.0 Desktop Runtime (x64) directly from Microsoft:
:backhand_index_pointing_right: Download .NET 6.0 (Linux, macOS, and Windows) | .NET
  • Run the installer and select Repair (or Install if not already present).
  • After completing this step, restart your computer.
  1. Ensure Roon and RAATServer are allowed through the firewall
  • Open Windows Security → Firewall & network protection → Allow an app through firewall.
  • Make sure both Roon.exe and RAATServer.exe are checked for Private and Public networks.
  1. Temporarily disable antivirus or endpoint protection software, then start Roon again and observe if the devices appear without flashing.
  2. If the issue persists, please let us know:
  • Whether you see any new Event Viewer entries mentioning RAATServer.exe after reinstalling .NET.
  • If your Realtek audio device still causes the flashing icons when selected.

Once we have this information, we can determine whether this is purely a Windows runtime issue or something related to the Realtek driver stack.

Hi @zvl02623,

I’m afraid we’re at the point of repeating suggestions we’ve already made. The fastest way to receive support is to respond to the original thread, rather than creating an additional technical support request.

Please first ensure you’ve added all Roon processes (including RAATServer.exe) to the Windows Defender firewall safelist for both public and private networks.

Please also verify that you’ve cleared Roon’s processes in third-party security (like antivirus software or other firewalls).

We’ll await your response here. Thank you!

Hello @zvl02623

Thank you for the screenshot — this error indicates that RAATServer encountered a memory access issue and could not continue.

To resolve this, please follow these steps:

  1. Fully close Roon
  • Right-click Roon icon in the taskbar → Quit Roon
  • Open Task Manager → make sure RAATServer.exe and RoonAppliance.exe are not running. End them if they are.
  1. Delete the RAATServer cache
  • Press Win + R and enter:
%localappdata%\Roon
  1. Delete the folder:
Cache
Temp
  1. Rename the folder Database to Database_old

  2. Restart the computer

  3. Make sure audio drivers are up-to-date

  • If using a USB DAC → reinstall the DAC driver from the manufacturer’s website.
  • Unplug it from the PC and check if the RAAT is launching well wi the system output.
  1. Try launching Roon again and let us know if the error still appears.

Vadimさん。zvl02623です。
アイコンは、点滅しなくなりましたが、デバイスのifi dacとifi streamerが接続できません。ifi streamer はアイコンも表示されません。ifi dacは再インストールをしましたが駄目でした。

Good day @zvl02623 !

I hope you’re doing well today.

Can you please clarify how those audio devices are supposed to be connected to the PC ? Via the cable (USB/HDMI) or they’re network endpoints ?

looking forward to your reply.

Regards.
