Roon backup issue

My NUC finally gave up the ghost with a screeching fan. Before I sent it to the dustbin, I took a backup. I have installed ROON on my Windows PC and attached my storage SSD with over 2000 albums on it. Pointed the new ROON server to the SSD and then restored the backup. The most important sort for me of my albums is date added, but this has all my albums as added today. Not much point in restoring the backup if it can’t get this right, or am I doing something wrong?

Starting from scratch, don’t login to Roon and set “stuff” up just select restore backup.

Hey @Billz,

@Carl makes a good point above - see if the immediate restore of your last backup provides the solution you’re after.

Here’s a step by step on how to refresh the current database so you can perform the restore:

  • Make a Backup of your current RoonServer Database
  • Exit out of RoonServer
  • Navigate to your RoonServer’s Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “RoonServer”
  • Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old”
  • Reinstall the RoonServer App from our Downloads Page to generate a new RoonServer folder
  • On the Roon Remotes, press “Use another Roon Server” and connect to the new database

Let us know if the above helps! :+1:

I tried the restore option first but it started to remove all my albums as the storage folder didn’t exist. I added the new location but it just added the albums with the date as added not the original date. If I do a restore of a backup, the same thing happens as the original storage folder location does not exist.

What are your settings under Settings > Library > Import Settings > Track import dates?

Are they:

When I did this, I edited the existing watched folder (to point it at the new location) rather than creating a new one.

Creating a new one should work, but I think the old watched folder in Roon needs disabling / deleting first.

IIRC I think the date added gets corrected once the initial file scanning / verification has taken place … but it’s been a very long time since I did this.

I can confirm I did not lose the file import dates, like you preserving those dates is important to me.

I trust my experience with this helps but if not hope Roon’s @support team can give you a more definitive steer.

Thanks for this @DDPS this resolved my issue. I have set the import date to the date created and this has reordered all my albums to the order I have added them to the library.
