Describe the issue

Hi there,

Thanks for taking time to read this.

For some reason, my Roon backup has ballooned. My library is just 440 albums, but it is now taking some 1.95GB on Dropbox.

In Edit Scheduled Backups, I have set it to keep only two backups (and it has been that way for months). This has only recently happened.

Is this normal behaviour?

Describe your network setup

ROCK on Ethernet (but not a networking issue).

Hi @Benet_Northcote,

Thanks for sharing your report!

Can you provide more details around your backup structure? We’re seeing reports of 6 total backups via Dropbox, and only deleting one of the 6.

On top of this, we’re seeing out-of-memory traces from dropbox, here’s an example:

07/25 04:02:05 Debug: [dropbox] received status code 409, error summary: path/insufficient_space/...

Based on your screenshot: Dropbox>Roon Library> Roon Backups it’s best to keep your watched folders and your backup folders completely separate to ensure they don’t overlap.

We’ll be on standby for your reply! :+1:

Hi Benjamin

Thanks for looking at this for me.

So, I have two backups scheduled - one to an attached USB stick, which goes daily, and one to Dropbox, which runs weekly.

Despite the naming convention, the Dropbox does not have any watched folders or media files on it. It is only used for the back up. (My FLAC files are on an internal SDD drive). It’s set to run once a week and hold no more than two backups.

Since raising the ticket, I went in an deleted all the old back up files and it has run again successfully. I forced another two back ups and it seems to be running ok.

Odd. I will monitor and come back to you if this happens again.

What is a typical file size for a back up?

Thanks
Benet

I’m glad your backups are working again. If this happens again please let us know.

This can vary from user to user. As long as all of your backups are around the same size it’s probably fine.
