· My Roon backup has taken approx 17 hours and is still going.
After applying the latest Roon upgrade (2.71?) to my 2014 Mac Mini running Monterey v12.7.6 I found that my Roon Server wouldn't start. I then found out from reading up on the Roon forum that my Mac is the base version for Roon and that other people with 2014 Mac Minis had been experiencing similar issues.
So I followed the guidance on the forum to install Roon v2.64 in preparation for moving my Roon Server from the Mac Mini to a new MacBook Air. Both Macs are now running 2.64. I now needed a backup to migrate to my MacBook. Shared storage is good for this so I decided to change my backup directory from my Mac Mini to my (ancient) NAS and kicked off a backup yesterday afternoon. It's still going at 10am the following day.
I guess it would have been quicker if I'd shared the backup directory on my Mac mini to my MacBook? Firstly it would have been an incremental rather than a full backup and secondly it wouldn't have meant writing the data over my (wired) network to my NAS. However, I don't know how to do that so I just started the backup to the NAS without really thinking it through.
Should I kill my backup (how?) and make the change of directory to my previous backup directory on the Mac Mini? Would that work now that I've started another backup to a different area?

My library is approx 32,000 tracks of which approx 24,000 are local files. I also connect to Qobuz.
It seems to have finished at 2am this morning (local time).
The problem was that I had configured two separate Backup locations, one which I had been using up to now and the second which I’d just added. This second location is one which can be seen by both Roon servers which is why I had added it. In Settings>Backups it was showing the status for the location that I wasn’t using for this backup.
It’d be good to have a bit of a more positive indication of backup status and progress. Being able to monitor progress would have eliminated the need for me to raise this Support Issue. Is this possible?
It looks like the backup itself did finish, and the long run time is very likely explained by the combination of a full backup, a second destination, and writing over the network to an older NAS as you’ve mentioned.
For backups in Roon, the main thing is that the destination is reachable and the backup completes successfully. The Backup guide covers the expected behavior and how restores work if you do need to move to the new MacBook Air.
On your question about progress, Roon’s backup UI is pretty minimal right now. We do not show a detailed live progress bar or granular item-by-item status, so it can look opaque while it is running. That is a fair point, and I’d suggest creating a feature request over in our Feedback category here:
