Hi
I am new with Roon and would like to hear your user experiences on how you get most of the Roon.
I have uoploaded my CD library and using Qobuz. I usually follow the new releases and also try to dig through the Roon Playlists.

How is your Best Practise? Anybody wants to share experience?

For music discovery, I use a combination of the following

- **Roon Radio** - when my queue is empty, Roon Radio often introduces me to a new artist or work of familiar artists I’ve not heard before
- **Your Daily Mixes** - curated playlists are ideal when away from home, so I often revisit play history and check out music I enjoyed
- **Roon Community** forum - Checking out what other members listen to is a great way to discover something you may have missed
- **New releases for you** - informs me of new albums from artists I follow

Some of these use Valence, so be patient, as it can take a while for Roon to learn your preferences.

All very goods points Martin has listed.

All I would add for best practices is to backup your database regularly and also have a backup of your music.

I look at what @mjw stated as well as the “similar artists” section and the “Influences” section to see if there are other artists that I would like to try. Oh, and the “appearances” section in discography to see where else the artist might appear.

I tend to not jump around much but rather explore a specific artist and their network at a time, so I frequently use the tools that allow me to restrict what I see and drill down into that:

Don’t read Internet forums 😉

If it’s working and you’re enjoying the music then you’ve already achieved “best practice”.

If you want thousands of strangers to convince you to buy new gear then you’ve come to the right place!

Yes, I forgot to mention this. I do this quite often, too. For example, Japan takes us to David Sylvian’s solo career, Robert Fripp, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Porcupine Tree and so on.

In addition to the fine suggestions offered by @mjw and @bearFNF I would add a suggestion to look at the “Recommended Albums” and “Similar Albums” sections at the bottom of every album page you enjoy. I find a lot of stuff that I was not aware of that usually lines up well with my overall tastes (which are pretty eclectic).

Hyperlinks in the album descriptions (sourced from either TiVo reviews or Wikipedia – but especially Wikipedia for older albums, as I am recently discovering) are an excellent source for either discovering new (to you/me) music and new information about music you already enjoy.

This raises another tip for new Roonians: You might want to go through your uploaded music to check to see that all of your albums are “identified” in Roon, if you haven’t already done so. Some of what Roon does best is accomplished by knowing what you have in your collection, but all of this assumes that albums in your collection have been identified by the Roon software; typically this occurs automatically when Roon scans your imports, but for a variety of reasons (usually related to mis-tagged import content) Roon is sometimes unable to identify an import.

It’s easy to find out if you have any unidentified content (see the link in @Suedkiez’s in response). Scroll to the “Inspector” columns for the “Identified” category (see below):

 ![Identified and Unidentified albums 1](https://roon-community-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/original/3X/5/b/5b8cad73f230ff155d820755be24ecc690d918e5.jpeg)
Click on the “Identified” tag to switch to "not [-] Identified] to see the number and list of albums in your collection that Roon has been unable to identify.
 ![Identified and Unidentified albums 2](https://roon-community-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/original/3X/2/e/2ee37da1188aa92b3e53c9ad0f547aa0e1355608.jpeg)

If you find unidentified albums, you can use the album editor to update the information and see if you can get Roon to identify it. (More about how to edit albums and other tips for grooming your collection here) [https://help.roonlabs.com/portal/en/kb/articles/editing-and-grooming-your-collection#How\_editing\_impacts\_future\_metadata\_improvements](https://help.roonlabs.com/portal/en/kb/articles/editing-and-grooming-your-collection#How_editing_impacts_future_metadata_improvements)

The less unidentified content you have, the better Roon will be able to help you discover music you’re likely to enjoy.

Happy hunting!

Thank you. I will try these. I uploaded my CD colection and some of the downloads. Now I have around 1200 albums in my library but I really get lost. I can only find by the name of the artist I want to listen to. I need to find a way to sort out my library better and may be start making it smaller at first and then add in a more controlled manner. I need to try.
