Roon bridge is MSI - 16w laptop with intel i5 processor and Nvidia GTX graphics card. The bridge is connected to Wi-Fi wirelessly and them am hdmi out of the laptop to a Smyth Realiser A16 dad/headphone amp. I am using an iPad as my remote.

Description of Issue
This setup worked fine for months but recently started getting the too many failures error message when trying to play a track on this audio output choice. I have reinstalled the bridge on the laptop and restarted the nuc a few times. Checked the audio settings on the laptop a few times. I can hear the “test” tones on the laptop out of my headphones, so the audio connection is there. Just can’t get a track to play without many tracks shuffling through and then the error message.
I have also tried different settings for this output in the Roon software like choosing different volume controls from fixed to device, etc. I checked my router settings to make sure it is in bridged mode, but no settings had been changed before getting these errors.
@David_Brinkman-Sull1, welcome to the Community. These symptoms tend to be network related, but may not be.
How does your MSI Roon bridge connect to the network, via WiFi or Ethernet cable? If via WiFi, is it possible to test by connecting the MSI with an Ethernet cable (even temporarily) to the A16 to eliminate a variable? Do you have any network switches in your network?
I tried the wired Ethernet approach and that didn’t work either. That audio source disappears now after the error message. Then I have to go to settings then audio and refresh just to get that audio source back as an option. But the too many playbacks error keeps coming back.
There is a tplink network switch that I forgot to mention. It comes before the Nuc. But that has been in place since I first set the nuc up as my core. So that is not new. I have successfully accessed Roon through the laptop bridge wirelessly as my nuc is typically not in the same room as my bridge and amp, but they are all on the same Wi-Fi network.
Can you post a diagram or explain in more details how your network is configured? Starting from your router to the connected devices (including the TP-Link switch), and what is connected to what?
Here is a diagram of my network. X6 nighthawk router via wired Internet cable to tp link Ethernet switch to Intel nuc that has the room core and to my laptop that has the room bridge. Then dvd out from the laptop to my dac/headphone amp.
The diagram is helpful and doesn’t necessarily show anything out of the ordinary meaning it looks like a correct configuration. One idea would be to go back to using Ethernet for the MSI, but replace the cable and switch ports on the TP-Link switch (a bad port or bad cable could be a factor here), and be sure WiFi is deactivated on the MSI. It may also be useful to try the same to the Roon Core.
Also, have you turned everything off then 1) reboot your router, 2) then turn on the NUC, and 3) then turn on the MSI?
Thank you for your patience while we worked through the queue to reach your inquiry.
We’ve attempted a diagnostic pull from your RoonServer device, but the machine doesn’t appear to be registering a local IP address on the network. First, at your convenience, can you please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader?
Next, please verify that any active network security features aren’t interfering within the Nighthawk router firmware. Do you have any additional routers in your setup? We ask because you mentioned you’d placed your router in bridge mode in your additional report.
@Robert_F’s instructions are additionally helpful and worth pursuing. We’ll keep a lookout for your response. Thanks!
