If you just want the Windows PC to use the attached DAC as an endpoint, then you need to install Roon Bridge, which supplies the Output function of Roon.
If you want to also use the Windows PC as a Roon Control, then install Roon, which also includes the Output function.
Thanks for confirming what I was thinking, Geoff_Coupe. My DAC is a bit fussy with its USB inputs and if I have a problem, I wanted to be sure it was with the DAC’s handshake with the PC and not necessarily with the Roon>Windows Roon Bridge>USB Out concept.
So, as I understand it, my NUC (ROCK) Roon Server should recognize my Windows PC, once I’ve installed Roon Bridge on it and an output will go out the PC’s USB port connected to my DAC. Hopefully, I’ve understood the process and it works as expected.
I installed Roon Bridge and my Roon Remote found the PC and the devices connected to it, including the DAC in question.
However, as I thought I may, I’m having problems getting the Wavelength Crimson DAC to properly “handshake” with my PC/Roon. But I could be having problems with the DAC or ancillary downstream components. So, as far my initial question goes, it has been solved.
