Roon bridges are gone in audio section

Since the last Roon update I do not seen my two Roon bridges.

They are on a RPi4 and a RPi3 both running rooExtend with Roon bridge enabled.

I can see both RPis in my network and in the extension section but the do not appear in the audio section anymore.

I update both Roon bridges on the RPis (even update note said this is going to happen automatically) and restarted roon afterwards.

With no luck, still gone.

Anybody has an idea what I am missing?

Thx!

The new Roon Bridge has an indirect dependency upon libicu. It is possible that this library is missing on your rpi installation which would prevent Bridge from running.

If so, then there should be an entry in the Roon Bridge log

Thx for your reply.

Where do I find the log and how does that help me?

I did not install roon bridge it self, it is part of rooExtend, to my understanding, so it probably needs to be fixed there?

I’m not actively using RoonBridge on my RooExtend Pi, but I can confirm it’s also disappeared from my Roon core since I upgraded RoonBridge.

I checked the logs that RooExtend exposes, but couldn’t see any errors.

As @Wade_Oram says this is likely the same problem that has affected RoonBridge on many other Raspbery Pi builds - a missing library.

@DrCWO probably one for you to investigate.

Thx,

lets wait and see what @DrCWO has to say about this.

Luckily I have enough other endpoints which are still working.

Hi @Daiyama,
I have to know which Roon release you use. You find this at Roon Settings/About

This is what I see here and I can confirm that the Roon Bridge on rooExtend is fully operational with this release :+1:

Roon posted that elder releases may not work any more in future. But rooExtend has all the current library’s onboard so there is no touble to be expected.

There is a small issue in Roon. If you press the “update now” button the Roon Bridge will update, be restarted ans working. But it no longer shows up in Ronn Settings/About.

A restart of the Roon Server will fixe this.

EDIT:
Digging a bit deeper it seems that, for what reason ever, some Roon Bridges will stay invisible in Settings/About.

One of my rooExtend devices did not show up here after a reboot of the Roon core.
Nevertheless it appears in Settings/Audio and also works. Seems to be an issue in Roon Settings/About…

Thank @DrCWO for getting back to me.

Same here. Roon bridge does not appear.

Roon version is the same as yours.

Reboot didn’t help.

I have to admit that the updated Roon Bridges are currently behaving somewhat inconsistently when displayed in Roon.

Here an example from my setup:
In the Roon Settings/About I see my PC, my Roon Core and one Bridge (Wohnzimmer @.130)

Going to Roon Settings/Audio I see two Roon Bridges, the one @.130 and the other one @193.
And most importantly: Both run on rooExtend and BOTH WORK!

I assume this is a display issue in Roon (a minor problem), since I can play music without any issues via both Roon Bridges.

So nothing wrong with rooExtend…

I think I have to open up a Roon support ticket…

But this needs to wait, next week I am away from home.

Right :+1:

Not much to be happy about for me…

Any clue what could be the problem with my system?

Because my server is on MacOS Tahoe?

Edit: can it be that my rooExtend is outdated? I installed it a couple of years ago and never changed anything since then. What is the update process for rooExtend?

@DrCWO i think there is a rooExtend related issue.

Since the roon bridge update (which I initiated via the roon app) my rooExtend no longer appears as an endpoint in Roon.

The rooExtend extensions are all working fine.

My suspicion is roon bridge isn’t running (although I can see it’s being started in the log).

This isn’t a problem for me ( I don’t use this as an endpoint), but happy to help with logs etc.

Please guys, let’s find out your release of rooExtend.

Current is 3.5.3. as you can see in the License Manager.

Raspberry Pi Zero isn’t supported any more for a long time…

I’m running 3.5.3 on a Pi 4 B Rev 1.5

I did try the reinstall roon bridge option just in case - it didn’t help.

Hmm, I’m out of ideas for the moment, since I can’t reproduce the error

In my setup (Roon Core on Win11) I miss one of my bridges in the Settings/About section but non in the Settings/Audio and both are working. The versions of the installed software also meet Roon’s requirements.

What Host System did you use for the Roon Core?

I recall there being some issues with rooScreen when using R.O.C.K.

Best DrCWO

Ok, licence manager says 2.2.1. (I always thought this is the version of the update manager and not rooExtend)

It looks like I have some updating todo. :slightly_smiling_face:

This is the release for ARMv6. It was made for the Pi Zero W.
Support and updates for Zero W have been dropped very long time ago.

This means:
If you’re on Pi Zero W you have to get new Harware like a Pi4. Pi5 is not yet supported!

Thx.

I am on a Pi3 and Pi4.

I’m using roon ROCK version 2.1 - I don’t see rooExtend in either “about” or “audio”

Most of the Roon Bridge Pi problems were caused by a single missing library.

Is there a way to remote into the Pi and check for the presence of this or check Roon Bridge installed correctly?

@DrCWO

Where do I find 3.5.3?

On the official download page I only see 3.4.0?

Was 3.5.3 taken down because of the issue here?

Shall I use 3.4.0 instead or should I wait for a new update?

Thx
