Roon can no longer access Qnap server just a waving icon

I was getting the “Metadata Improver” issue see attached pictures

  • I searched and found a couple of solutions that didn’t solve the issue
  1. Shutdown Roon Server app on Qnap and also Mac app
  2. Threw out cache folder on the Qnap in the Roon Server folder
  3. Rebooted NAS (this did not work) Did several more reboots too (app and NAS)
  4. Reinstalled Qnap app (didn’t work) Rebooted Qnap again too (didn’t work)
  5. I was getting choose your Roon core after the above but would go to the endless boot screen (see bottom picture)
  6. Reinstalled OSX app and now I do not get a splash screen to choose core just the endless boot screen

What can I do next???
There is plenty of room on the SSD that Roon db is on 340gb.
I am running latest version of Catalina and I even upgraded the Qnap to latest to see if that was the issue

Hi @Peter_McCabe1,

Are you using the latest QNAP package version?

I only see the 2020-6-22 version I can not find the 2020-07-14 anywhere.
Is there a direct download somewhere?Qnap Roon version

@Peter_McCabe1 -

Here is a direct link: https://roononnas.org/builds/QNAP/RoonServer_2020-07-15_x86_64.qpkg
From: https://roononnas.org/en/roon-on-nas/

Hey Norris,

Thanks for quick reply I will see if it works!
FYI there is no place to get downloads on https://roononnas.org/en/roon-on-nas/

@Peter_McCabe1 - If you scroll down just a bit, the first section should say:

Installation Fix for RoonServer on QNAP

An update is available to fix an installation issue on QNAP NAS devices.
As long as it is not published in the QNAP App Center you can download it here:

Roon Server for QNAP (2020-07-15)

I installed it relaunch Roon on iMac and getting the wave icon.
I also threw out the cache again
I am power cycling the QNAP now will update you if anything changes

Hi @Peter_McCabe1,

Is this issue only occurring on your Mac Roon Controller?
You can try to perform a reinstall of the Roon Mac app:

  • Exit out of Roon
  • Navigate to your Roon’s Database Location (under ~Library on the Mac)
  • Find the folder that says “Roon”
  • Rename the “Roon” folder to “Roon_old”
  • Reinstall the Roon App from our Downloads Page to generate a new Roon folder

Hello Noris,

Not sure where the issue is. QNAP is the server. I had previously re-installed the mac app the other day to see if that worked but it didn’t. I just reinstalled it located the core and now I have a white splash screen
How long should this go on for?
Roon white

Hi @Peter_McCabe1,

It looks like you might have marked my previous suggestion as the solution to this issue?
Did the reinstall of the Mac remote help?

Hey Noris,

Thanks for seeing this through!
The reinstall was prob not solution but the library DB removal/rename that did the trick.

Also the RoonNas.org for latest version is a dead end. I was able to get it with the link you posted to me but they might want to have a download section for pre Qnap approved versions otherwise its just is a loop that is a waste of time.

Hi @Peter_McCabe1,

Thanks for the update, glad to hear that my instructions helped! As for the QNAP package, our QNAP package creator is working on this issue, hopefully you won’t need to do a manual install too much longer and the QNAP package will be published to the QNAP app store.
