Roon can read the contents of my backup folder but not write to it

i’ve been backing up to a folder on my mac without problems for several years. suddenly this morning roon is unable to write to the backup location, although it seems to be able to read the contents without any problem.

i’ve verified that everyone has read/write permission to the shared folder, and that smb sharing is on.

the share is defined as:

smb://stevans-mini/RoonBackups

exactly as the file-sharing window on the mac indicates.

no userid, no password, no working group.

when i select that folder on roon i can see the contents.

when i go to back up manually i get the error:

Backup failed at / Backup directory not available.

i rebooted my roon server (it’s running on a salk streamplayer III SE) but that hasn’t helped.

what other steps should i take to restore backup capability?

did you also try rebooting your Mac?

did you also try rebooting your Mac

no - i’ll try that and see if it works.

rebooting my mac didn’t solve the problem.

even worse now after rebooting my mac: i’m receiving the error: "error loading folder NotFound.

well, the problem seems to have fixed itself (sort of):

i deleted the share and redefined it (for the 12th time this morning) and it finally “took”.
