My Music is in folders on a separate SSD attached to my MacMini Roon Server. Some folders, not all, on that SSD containing most of my music are now not seen by Roon, even though they have been imported and seen by Roon previously over a long period.
When I look at the contents of the missing folders on the Mac finder they are intact and individual music files will play (not on Roon). However, the message I get in Roon storage is 'This directory appears to be empty. Add some files or edit this folder if it's been moved.' If I edit the folder I get the message 'Error Loading Folder'.
How can the MacMini read the folder but Roon cannot? Thanks in anticipation!
Describe your network setup
This is not a network issue, it is an external SSD connected by USB.
Thanks for taking the time to write in, it’s good to see you on the community again!
Have you recently updated the Mac to Sequoia? If so, can you please navigate to macOS System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network , and make sure Roon is allowed. If it is already enabled, toggle it off and on again. Then reboot your Mac, and see if the same issue persists.
I’d also double-check the share settings on the drive and folder holding your local library, here’s more info on this:
I followed the instructions exactly but I regret that neither of those options worked. A few folders, but not the majority, on the SDD are still recognised by Roon whilst they are all recognised by MacOS. It is very.strange that these folders that have been recognised by Roon over the last year or more have suddenly disappeared.
I should have added that yes, I had just upgraded the M1 Mac Mini to Sequoia and I suspect that this is where the problem began. Unfortunately I did not notice immediately because I had been listening to music streamed from Qobuz via Roon, rather than my own music library.
I realised that the SSD is nearly 6 years old so I have bought a replacement which I have formatted and copied the music files onto from a backup. All is now working and the original SSD, after reformatting, seems fine as a faster backup.
