Describe the issue
I've had Roon for several years now on my system; however, recently (in the last 6 months), as often as not, Roon can't locate my server. My system is a DarTZeel LHC-208 MKii integrated, an Innuos Zenith Mk3, and an Aqua Formula DAC. I've removed and downloaded Roon on my iPad (OS 15.8.3). I've been a week trying to have Roon locate my server, which it can't. All devices are on and on the same wi-fi. Very frustrating. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you, Bing
Describe your network setup
Wi-fi from NetGear Extender to DarTZeel LHC-208 MKii Integrated. Music server is an Innuos Zenith MK3; and my DAC is an Aqua Formula mk2
We first need to clarify a few details above. You mentioned an Innous RoonServer machine, but indicated your RoonServer is hosted on MacOS. Do you have a Mac in this setup as well, or have you migrated your RoonServer at any point?
If you haven’t moved or reinstalled Roon, then the WiFi extender is the most likely culprit. Device announcements are possibly filtered out or interference is causing sufficient packet loss to terminate the connection before it can shake hands.
What is your network topology other than the network extender? Where is the router in this setup relative to your other Roon devices?
Thanks for responding. I don’t have a Mac in this setup- only using an iPad to control selections from the server’s library. I did reinstall Roon on the iPad to see if that would help- it didn’t. My router is in another room about 30’ away from my set-up. That’s why the NetGear extender receives the Wi-fi signal from the Netgear router- then a network cable from the extender into my DarTZeel Integrated. One other thing if it matters, my setup showed my Aqua Formula DAC as the end point for Roon. With only a few connection problems over the past few years (usually solved by re-booting either the Innuos server, the extender, and/or the iPad), it has been working fine.
Hi @Bing_Drastrup,
I can tell you that our system is unable to see your server at all. Since your have an Innuos server can I assume you are using ROCK? If so can you access the web admin page for your server and share a screenshot of it with us? These instructions will help you to do that https://help.roonlabs.com/portal/en/kb/articles/roonos-webui
Thanks, Daniel. One of the problems may have been that my Extender was off due to a recent power outage. However, with it back on and all equipment restarted, the server still cannot be found. Even when I go to the “configure Roon OS devices” link, it still is searching and searching with no result. Maybe now you can see the server? Maybe Aqua of DarTZeel made a software change (my DarTZeel Integrated was upgraded in mid 2023 to MKii, but not aware of any changes madfe to the Aqua Formula DAC, which is a V2).
I’m attaching a schematic of my system which I hope will be helpful. Maybe I should delete the Roon app from my iPad, and then you can guide me through a setup as if I’m setting it up
What is DHCP? I’ve not configured anything on either the 5268 or the X10. Before adding the X10, the 5268 was set up for a different WiFi name. All my electronic s (iPhone, iPad, a Macbook Pro, and a Mac) all use the WiFi channel “Netgear95” that came with the X10. I’m assuming that my Innuos, Aqua Dac, and DarTZeel are all using the “Netgear95” network. Is it possible that the power outage which caused the Netgear X65 extender to remain powered off caused some components to switch over to the original network on the AT&T 5268AC modem? If so, how do I get them back onto the network “Netgear95” on the X10 Router (if that’s potentially the problem)? Bing
Yes we can see it now. I requested diagnostics from your server. To allow the diagnostics request to complete can you please turn your Roon server on for a few minutes?
I will turn on the server but can’t right now because our power is out for a few hours so the utility company can do repairs. I will have power restored by 2:00pm (Pacific time); and will turn everything backcountry on thereafter. Thanks for your patience.
Can you please review your router settings and confirm this is truly the case?
I’d also review your iPad network and privacy settings to confirm Roon has local network access. You can access this form your iPad settings>Privacy & Security>Local network.
