I add music, it shows up under recent activity. I can even find it when browsing the folder. but when I search for it, roon can't find it. Most of my collection is Classical. I use iTunes to initially organize my music, because I am comfortable with the CD ripping to ALAC.
The issue seems to happen, or where I have noticed it, is on Box sets for composers or conductors. In Apple I use the Composer as the Composer and Album Artist. I want all Beethoven stored together, as an example. The exception being if it is a box set for a conductor. In this case, I use the composer in composer, and Album Artist the conductor.
I have a 30 CD collection of Ralph Vaugn Williams. I put him in as Album Artist and Composer (Apple tends to put the artists and conductors into the artist tag) In apple all this works quite well.
However, roon shows the collection under recent activity, but if I search for Ralph Vaughn Williams, Vaughn Williams, Ralph, or any combination none of these CDs show up in the results.
Using [album artist] for the composer may well be the cause. Roon supports a [composer] tag and uses that .The Artist and Album Artist tags should be reserved for the performers. In this case there is a chance the Vaughan Williams may even be conducting hence as the Artist
Others will disagree but in this instance to take the composer out of album artist to see if it helps is a quick test
Not being rude but you are spelling the composer wrong it is VAUGHAN WILLIAMS. Roon supports
I misspelled it in my post but not in iTunes./Roon (look at the attachment). I appreciate the response. The issue only applies to big box sets. I do the same thing on a single or 4 cd boxes, and I have no problem. But when I get these 30-plus box sets, this issue occurs.
Search is not the best tool (it’s blunt instrument, you will find quite a lot of criticism of it) , just think what it’s doing . You ask for Vaughan Williams , it will look in Qobuz/Tidal as well as your local library. The double name means it will look for Vaughan and Williams as if 2 separate names , I got Stevie Ray Vaughan in my search.
Try the Composer view, open it and in the filter magnifying glass type “vau” , you will see Vaughan Williams
Hello @Christopher_Fogarty, thank you for reporting this. Something seems off in how we process the metadata from the box collection. Are any of these albums identified by roon?
I’ve enabled some verbose logging for your system that should help us troubleshooting. If you can, please restart your Nucleus when you get the chance, and try out following queries as written:
Hi @Christopher_Fogarty,
Did you get a chance to restart your Roon server yet? That’s a necessary step to activate the verbose logging mentioned by @Zenit.
Similar issue here,
I have a box set of Gabriel Fauré, it shows up in my library → albums in a search for Fauré. But if I search for the Fauré in the home section and pic the composer Fauré it shows me a number of his albums in my library but not this box set.
This is the box album set. Oddly once I find the set as described above, if I click on his name (listed as artist or composer. It takes me to his page, but this box set is not under this view. This is important because I usually go to the composer or artist page and then play. I want to ensure all my library can be played from this view. I have tried adding meta tags, such as tweaking the artist to him versus the performers, but no luck. Oddly, I do not see a composer meta tag.
In addition, could you please share the issue media as well? This will help our team attempt in-house reproduction. Please upload it to the media uploader below:
By issue media you mean the actual music? It is 34 CD worth. Happy to do it, just want to clarify. In the case of this issue it only seems to happen on box sets, so san-saens is 34 CD, Faure is 16ish. Just confirm, and I will begin.
You have a 5 gig limit, so I am uploading in two sets or more. First set is 16 CDs worth then I will upload the remainder. I am happy to do a screen share, or let you have access to my nucleus
