My system is a roon rock server running on a NUC, a Naim Uniti Nova and Naim Mu-so 2nd generation; the network is a TP-Link Deco PX50 mesh with power line backhaul. Both the server and Naim units are hard wired to the Deco units (the roon server and Nova on one, and the Mu-so on another).
Around 1 in 5 times when starting to play music on the Mu-so, a second or two after hitting play, the zone disappears from roon and the Mu-so seems to go through some kind of reset procedure, with the light on the right side flashing purple before settling back on white, at which point it reappears in roon and a second attempt to play is successful.
Any ideas?
Everything has been rebooted and the Mu-so factory reset. The Mu-so firmware and roon server are all latest versions.
I suspect this is your problem. Powerline network connections don’t conform to defined Ethernet standards and while they can work reliably, they can often cause discovery issues.
As a test you could buy a cheap long Ethernet cable and connect directly to your router to see if that eliminates the problem.
Thanks both - I’ve just moved the roon server to the Deco unit that the Mu-So is connected to - that should take the power line out of the equation - will report back in a few days…
Another thing to remember about powerline stuff is that by design, it puts high levels of interference onto your entire mains circuit (and possibly even that of your neighbours too) and this can interfere with equipment that is not directly connected to a powerline device, so the ideal test would be to turn it off completely.
Unfortunately these wifi units were a last resort in the last house, whose construction (including iron brick and lots of steelwork) made getting a decent wifi network virtually impossible without power line assistance. We’re now in something interim while our new house is being built (with lots of hard wired ethernet planned).
