Roon colour/saturation issue after Android One UI 6 Update [Investigating]

Sorry, I explained myself badly, the color of the album covers is darker than normal, lifeless.

This is a known issue - I’ve moved your posts into the existing Support thread. Issue is under investigation.

Describe the issue

Album artwork is very dark (and the general contrast in the artwork and app text to backdrop is way too aggressive) in the roon app running on my Samsung s24. It looks fine in the Roon ARC app though. Both apps are fine on my cheap Samsung.

Hi @Michael_Harmsworth,

I’ve merged your post into the relevant tracked thread. The team has a ticket in the pipeline concerning this issue, but there isn’t yet an associated fix slated for release. Stay tuned and we’ll post updates here.

Any update on this? Or I need to buy a new phone thats not Samsung?

Have you tried adjusting your brightness and/ or contrast settings in the phone itself?
As obviously this is not a universal problem or the forum would be inundated.
Is this a new to you phone?
Or has it been ok then suddenly changed?

Of course I tried to adjust that in the phone itself. None of the possible settings are making it better for Roon but destroying it for anything else on the phone. It´s not new and it is like this since I subscribed.

The reference is album artwork and artist photos compared to Roon on macOS.

The forum not being inundated does not mean there is no real problem …

Known issue for a long time on (some?) Samsung phones:

Thank you, @Suedkiez. That helped to at least understand what´s going on.

Hello @lobopanic,

Thank you for reaching out to Roon support.

We are currently investigating the issue with Dark Mode on Samsung devices powered by the Exynos CPU. Our team is aware of the problem and has already created a ticket for it. While there isn’t a fix scheduled for release at this time, we are actively working on it and will post updates as soon as we have more information.

Thank you for your patience, and please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any further questions or concerns.

Hi @lobopanic,

This ticket is still in the pipeline - thank you for your patience! We’ll ping this thread as soon as the associated ticket is slated to be included in a pending Roon update.

Hi everyone,

This ticket is still with development. Thank you for your tremendous patience. To summarize, Exynos-equipped Samsung phone models (this will vary by region and model) experience issues with contrast/saturation in certain screen modes (eg. Light Mode).

Certain Samsung models do not use Exynos at all, globally. This includes the S23 series (2023) and the S24 Ultra, both of which rely only on Snapdragon. Other models will vary by where you purchased the phone.

Again, we’ll flag here as soon as we have an update from development. I’ll ping them for a status update in the meantime in case there is any information we can share.

Hi @lobopanic,

We’re going to merge you post with the main tracking thread for this issue so that you can receive updates. Please stand by. Thank you!

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your ongoing patience regarding this issue.

To summarize, the team has received reports that color saturation issues pervade Exynos-equipped devices running Android OneUI6 and above. This includes many major market phone models in Asia and Europe up through the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Color saturation issues are somewhat subjective and can vary based on individual perception, user expectations, and UI or accessibility settings. That said, the team considers this a real and likely resolvable user interface problem.

Development has escalated their efforts to investigate and scope out a solution. We expect to have more information shortly from development we can share.

We will post updates as they become available here.
