While this ticket hasn’t yet merged into a Early Access test or public build, it does remain an active priority for the team. We will continue to provide status updates with a regular cadence until we have a realistic timeline to release. Thank you again for you patience.
The team has prepared a potential fix for this issue. Since color handling is highly subjective and users have reported a wide diversity of devices affected here, we want to share the fix selectively with users to test directly. If you’d like to test the fix, we have prepared an APK download of an Android Roon Remote build that is otherwise identical to the current public Roon version.
For those who are willing to test this out, you’ll need a second device (a phone, tablet, or digital camera) that can take photos of the affected Android phone screen. We can’t rely on screenshots from the phone itself because they’ll be colour-managed and look correct even when the panel is wrong. Only a photo of the phone screen itself taken from another device will give a precise and accurate sense of whether our fix has had any effect here.
Here’s what to do:
First, open Roon on the phone that has the color saturation problem and take a photo or short video illustrating the problem from a second device. We’ll use this as the “before” photo.
Then uninstall the Roon app from the affected phone (Settings → Apps → Roon → Uninstall). This won’t change anything about your Roon database; it’s just the remote.
Download the text-fix APK from this secure link and allow “Install unknown apps” for the browser / Files app when prompted. This APK is not tracked with the Play Store and won’t update after testing.
Open Roon and connect to your server on the new Android install.
Navigate to the same page in Roon that reproduced the color saturation symptoms in step one above. Take another photo (the “after” photo) from the second camera-equipped device.
Please share the before and after photos here along with your impression of whether the issue is resolved.
Thank you for taking the time to test this and share your results, @econaut. Feel free to uninstall the APK and switch back to the Play Store Roon install track. We’ll take this back to the team and share an update when we have a further fix prepared.
The last fix we prepared targeted the following models:
Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra, Note20, and Galaxy S21 / S21+ / S21 Ultra
For Pixel users, we have a separate test APK for download now available. We’d like to request the same steps as before, if you’re still willing:

@Foo_Bar, thank you for taking the time to test this as well. We expect we can extend this fix to include later generations; please stand by and we’ll have more information shortly.
Thank you everyone. Happy to answer any questions.
Our apologies for the double-post. We’re attempting to gather remote logs from the affected device but it hasn’t reached our servers in a few days.
At your convenience, please open Roon for a few minutes on the phone. A short connection window should be sufficient for the logs to upload automatically.
