Roon Core not found by Roon remote apps

Hi there

I’m running Roon on my Windows PC (i5, 32G ram , 6tb HDD). The Roon remotes on my Ipad and Iphone cannot see the core. It use to work without issues (for the best of the last 3 to 4 years) until last week.

When I go to setup in Roon on the PC it also cannot find the core…although it works fine streaming music through the network to the end points (Ifi Streamers x 2 and RPi4). The Ipad and Iphone just carries on searching without any messages. I’ve reloaded Roon on the PC and on both the Ipad and Iphone

Network is working fine

Please provide some help

Cheers
Steve

Hi Steve, just a fellow user here!

That’s been talked about ever so often, and Roon actually changed the wording in current releases to be less confusing.

So questions would be …
a) are you referring to this setting, and …
b) have you updated all your devices to the latest version?

This setting is only useful, if you’ve got a Roon Nucleus or a NUC with Roon Rock installed, which both run on Roon’s operating system.

Your problem might well be caused by running different versions of Roon.

Good luck!

Thanks for the response. Yes, I refer to the option you indicated and thanks for the insight…and yes, I’ve updated Roon on my PC and Ipad and Iphone to the latest available versions…still does it

turn off the windows firewall to troubleshoot…if it works then you need firewall exclusions, if not make sure the IP addresses are in the same subnet for your remotes

Hey @Steve_Wiid, to receive appropriate help, it would be really helpful if you could complete the template provided below.

You can copy and paste it in your reply.

Please be sure to include details of your core, network, storage location of your media files, and any messages displayed by Roon.

Including these details in your first post helps resolve your issues faster.

Thank you.

Hey @Steve_Wiid,

Ben with the support team here, thanks so much for your patience while we work through each thread. Since some time has passed, I wanted to check in for a status update. Are you still having connectivity issues with your core and remotes?

@Carl is correct in that the more specific information we have around your full setup, the better. It would be good to double-check your firewall settings too - and make sure that both Roon.exe and RAATServer.exe are listed as exceptions.

I’ll be on standby for your reply. :+1:

Hi Ben

Thanks for getting back to me. I reloaded Roon on my PC and the app on both my iPhone and iPad. It still would not do what it did before (last 2 years) and that is to allow me to monitor and change /manage the music playing on any one of the end points from anyone of the devices in the house.

I ended up adding Roon Server to my PC start-up and that allowed each one of my devices to independently change and manage the end-points (i.e. The iPad does not see what music I’ve selected for an end-point through my PC. The IPad can however overwrite what is playing at that end-point with whatever I select to on it….but that in turn does not show on the PC – The PC still shows what was previously selected on it etc………)

To cut a long story short - As long as Roon Server is running on the PC, each of the controlling devices work independently. Which is different to the way it worked before where all of the devices were interconnected. Previously I just started Roon on the PC and all would work, now I had to add Roon Server to my PC Start-up.

My Setup:

  • Network Setup – Router connected to a fibre point coming into the house. The router is connected to an 8 port switch which is used for most of the wired points in the house (PC included). Wifi runs from the Router
  • Roon Server - PC (I5 (4th generation), 6TB HDD, 32G Ram, Windows 10 Professional)
  • IPad – Mini 10.5 inch Pro
  • IPhone – 13
  • Endpoints - 2x RPI 4 and 2x IFI network streamers
  • The rest of the network stuff is beyond me……I’m just an Electrical Engineer….

The way its working now is useable but not ideal

Many thanks

Cheers

Steve

Hey @Steve_Wiid,

Thanks for the update!

I see from your account page that you’ve recently re-downloaded and installed the Roon all-in-one app on your PC core. Are you still experiencing this independent navigation? I’m currently running Roon Server on a ROCK device, and am able to see what is currently playing on my iOS and MacBook remotes.

Whats the specific model of this switch?

I would also make sure to update your Remote devices to the latest 1277 build.

Thanks for your patience here!
