Roon Core on iMac Requires Restart After Sleep (ref#1TRVHK)

Describe the issue

I have to restart my iMac ( OS 12.6.3), which is running my Roon core (build 1445) every time after the Mac goes to sleep. I have the settings so that the the Mac prevents automatically sleeping when the screen is off. Shutting down the Roon app and reopening it doesn't work.

Describe your network setup

My set-up is simple. I have a TP-Link AC 1600 router, which is connected to the Mac via ethernet cable and an ethernet cable to a Bluesound which then connects to my pre-amp. I emphasise that when it is working it is excellent usually we just play classical music via Qobus. Sometimes there are issues with "Qobus loading slowly" but I suspect that is my internet.

I run Roon Server on a Mac Mini OS 12.7.6 but it’s been running OS 12.x from the start. My system never goes to sleep with the same settings so something is amiss in your system. Whether the setting is not sticky despite being selected in Energy Saver preferences or something else is triggering sleep, perhaps an examination of system logs would offer a clue.

Hi @Mark_Allison,

Thank you for your post.

Am I understanding correctly that symptoms within Roon only resolve by restarting the computer? If so, what’s the specific symptom you’re seeing?

Are you stopping RoonServer as a background process, or closing and opening the Roon app itself? Try the former if you haven’t. You should see RoonServer running in the taskbar - try closing it from there.

Thank you. I’m not sure what you mean by examination of the system logs, but I am having my OS upgraded in a few weeks and will ask the guru.

Thank you.

What I see on my iPhone is that, first; waiting for core and second; Roon not responding or try another core, which I do not have, or words to that effect.

I am not sure what you mean by the former, I usually quit the Roon app on my Mac.

Console (one of the apps in the Utilities folder) can provide logs of sleep/wake events. Perhaps your guru can explain.

If the Mac is going to sleep despite having the setting to never sleep, something is triggering it or is not set properly. Examination of the log files might provide a clue. If you’re upgrading the OS this may be moot.

Hi @Mark_Allison,

Stopping Roon Server is similar, but a little different. You can stop Roon Server from the taskbar on your iMac - here’s an image on how to do so (find the Roon jellyfish on your upper task bar and click it):

If you stop Roon Server and restart it, does it fix the issue you’re seeing?

It’s worth noting that Roon Server may also be stopped when your iMac is put into sleep mode. Here is more information on the community you’ll find helpful:

Thank you, the problem now seems to have sorted itself out. Previously stopping or quitting made no difference, I had to restart the iMac.
