Roon corrupting files? Transport: Failed to load media

Yes: Happy New Year to you and yours as well. I think I am taking the right shot. I have dragged and dropped from my but here goes

.

I have tried re-scanning by using the force re-scan, but it hasn’t worked. I am thinking about deleting the previous database and scan again, but have no idea if this is viable.

Thanks,
Bruce

Hi @Bruce_Morito ----- Thank you for the follow up, this is indeed the screenshot I was looking for :clap:

Before we start talking about starting with a fresh DB let me get this information over to our techs for some feedback and we can go from there. Starting fresh should ALWAYS be a last case scenario.

ADDITION: I just noticed that it appears that you are using the previous “iTunes integration”, can you please provide a screenshot of the “that” section of the storage tab as well? Thanks!

Eric: anticipating a follow-up question, I have tried playing the files that do not work in Roon in iTunes and they do work.
Bruce

Hi @Bruce_Morito ----- Thank you again for feedback, and more importantly, thank you for you patience.

Moving forward, as per the the request of our tech team would kindly please try disabling the “iTunes Library” watch folder (i.e under the heading Itunes Libraries (Roon 1.2 and older)) to see if this action triggers a change in behavior here. If it does, then the team suggestions considering switching to the new iTunes integration that was implemented with the release of v1.3.

Eric: that seems to have resolved part of the issue. Roon still is splitting albums into separate units with partial numbers of tracks. I am considering re-ripping everything to be independent of iTunes. Make sense?
Thanks,
Bruce

Thanks for touching base with me @Bruce_Morito , I am pleased to hear the suggestion has helped one part of the issue being reported.

Moving forward, just to make sure I understand where we are at in our troubleshooting:

Issue #1

"Transport: Failed to load media. It just stops so nothing plays, until I select another file. It is doing this with other files with no apparent pattern, although when a file isn’t playable, it remains unplayable. Regular AIFF 16/44.1 files.

  • Since disabling the mentioned “iTunes watch folder” you are no longer receiving the mentioned error message (i.e “Transport: Failed to load media”), correct?

Issue #2

At the same, it started dividing albums into separate albums with one or two selections and adding covers to the Browse window. This seems related to another problem I have always had: Roon separating each compilation into the separate artists. I often have to manually put them back together and then “Hide” the repeat files.

  • Can you please provide the following screenshots of an album you are currently experiencing this behavior with …

    • The error occurring in Roon (i.e divided album)
    • The storage location where the album is stored. I want to see what your folder structure looks like.
  • In your latest you mentioned that you are considering “re-ripping” everything to be independent of iTunes. My understanding of this comment is that you will re-rip the the content and instead of adding it to your iTunes library you will be adding it to a watch folder(s) outside of iTunes, correct?

-Eric

Sorry for butting in here, but something struck me as odd about those screenshots.

The first storage location is:

Macintosh HD > Volumes > LaCie

The next two are subfolders of that location:

Macintosh HD > Volumes > LaCie > Music
Macintosh HD > Volumes > LaCie > SACD Rips ISO

Roon is going to scan the entire LaCie drive and then it’s going to scan the Music subfolder as a separate storage location and treat these files as additional music. This may explain the multiple copies and split albums.

Try disabling (not deleting) the two storage locations that point to the two subfolders and see what happens.

@AMP ---- Thank you for the catch!

Thanks, Andrew. That makes a lot of sense. I’ve begun to realize that setting up the storage area logically is quite important; one of the reasons I’ve now started re-ripping everything, not with iTunes but dbPoweramp. That will motivate me to make sure everything is in logical order, and that naming files is consistent and the like. I’ve already noticed that some of the repeats are gone. Not sure what I am doing, but I am re-ripping to a folder outside of iTunes.
Sorry, I am not savvy when it comes to computers. It may be a good idea for Roon folks to give step-by-step instructions as to how to set up file directories for users like me.
