Ben with the support team here, thanks for writing in!
An odd issue indeed, if possible could you recreate the crash, and take note of the date, time, and track playing when the crash occurs?
With that, can you check the current firmware version you’re running on the Chromecast display? In the past, we’ve seen firmware updates solve similar issues.
System firmware version: 11.20230306.3.112016
Cast firmware: 1.69.362882
Language: en-AU
And my Roon PC:
Core
RoonPC (192.168.1.105)
Roon version 2.0 (build 1303) production
(64bit) - Read change log
You have the latest version installed.
I really can’t recreate the problem. It happens when something goes on in Chromecast I believe. If I restart my PC and before playing music (any music/track from Qobuz or stored FLAC files on my NAS), I switch off the (start on playback) Roon display, then all goes well no crash.
This happens occasionally. By the way my settings on Chromecast display is set in its accessiblity setings as screen reader - On. If I don’t use this feature in Chromecast display then the display goes off after sometime, after displaying the track
The issue stands with both Chromecast software and Roon. The way I look at it, - if Chromecast is updating or has any issue with its software THEN Roon display should simply ignore Chromecast and not crash and continue to function normally.
Since Chromecast is 3rd party software, Roon at its end should not crash. It should either be able to display on Chromecast normally or simple ignore it and continue its main function normally (regardless of Chromecast software issue).
