Describe the issue

This only happens with TIDAL - when I select one of the smart playlists in the "Music for you" section, and hit the play button on that playlist, Roon closes completely. It doesn't automatically restart, I have to reopen the app to get back - this only started happening with the latest release (build 1496)

Describe your network setup

Unifi networking equipment, UDM-SE as router, several Unifi APs - but the problem happens with a machine connected both via wifi, or via LAN

This is happening to me as well.

Happening on the Mac Roon client, build 1496, on MacOS 15.1.1

Hey @Andrew_Stangl and @Matt_Young,

Thanks for writing in and sharing your report! Based on your account @Andrew_Stangl, it seems like the crash may only be happening on the Roon / Mac side - rather than your ROCK crashing and restarting. Does that sound right in terms of the symptoms your facing? @Matt_Young can you also confirm that your Roon remote is crashing versus your Roon Server?

Let’s first clear our Tidal cache as a first step:

  • Exit out of Roon
  • Find and open your Roon database
  • Navigate to /Library/Roon/Cache
  • Move the contents of the /Cache folder elsewhere, like your desktop
  • Try restarting Roon and verify if the issue still occurs

Let me know if the above helps, and if you continue to experience crashing. If so, can you sign out and re-sign in and sync with your Tidal account through Roon, and see if the same issue occurs?

If crashing does still occur, it would be good to get a set of Roon logs from the affected remote crashing. Please use the directions found here and send over a set of Roon logs to our File Uploader?

Thank you! :raised_hands:

I also am having the same issue on a Mac. My windows machine and IOS all work as expected- but the Mac variant crashes each time I click on a tidal generated playlist. I tried renaming the Roon/Cache folder (and the app created a new folder) but it still crashed as before. I also signed out and re-signed in and it didn’t correct it.
I will look into that log file upload when I get a chance.

Logs were uploaded for this issue.

Same here: Roon crashes on Mac when selecting any tidal playlist. Roon is able to play individual Tidal albums and tracks.

Tried clearing cache, logging out of Tidal and logging back in, restarting roon server (Rock on NUC).

Tidal playlists on Roon on android also stopped working, though the app does not crash. Seems to be new behavior, using Build 1496.

Me too. Instant crash on the iOS app with a Mac server.

I’m also experiencing the app crashing immediately trying to play a tidal smart playlist

Seeing the same issue, the client app crashes when trying to start a tidal playlist. See it both with the OSX client and the iOS client. Roon core running on linux.

I found this crash report in the log on the mac.

Happening to me also -
Server - windows 11 pc version 1496
all my 1496 clients are affected:

  • windows 11
  • android
  • iOS on an Ipad

I had one android tablet on 1462 still and that still worked before I updated it.
On the windows side and the iOS side the app closes. on the android side it hangs and becomes unresponsive and you have to force close it.

please fix - this is really annoying - I use these mixes a lot.

When I choose a Tidal Mixes for You… nothing! And then freeze and have to reload Roon to get anywhere else.
Any ideas? Have tried logging out of Tidaland back in, restarted Roon Rock, restarted Ropiee. No change.

yep, same here. I think it’s a bug, started happening after the latest update. Problem seems to be with build 1496. Quite frustrating, on Android Roon freezes and on Windows it crashes and closes the software.

I get this issue as well if I use the ‘play’ button in the centre of the playlist image like:

However, if I select it and then use the ‘play now’ button at the top of the page it plays fine.

Similarly, I go to the playlist track listing and use the ‘play now’ button from there, it works without issue:

Not ideal - but it is a workaround.

Incidentally, the same happens with playlists offered by Qobuz - and the same workarounds apply.

Describe the issue

The latest Roon update is faulty (Build 1496). If you try to play a TIDAL Mix, the Roon app on MacOS Sequoia 15.2 crashes immediately.

Describe your network setup

Fritz!Box 7590 OS 8.0 MacMini M1 over Ethernet, MacBook Air M2 over WLAN 5GHz

You are right. There is an issue with build 1496. It’s not limited to MacOs or Sequoia.

Hopefully, it will get fixed in the next release. Until then, there is a workaround:

Hi All!

Apologies for the delay in following up. Our team has identified the issue here and have a fix in the pipeline that should be released soon. Please keep your eye out for upcoming release notes! :+1:

I’m new to Roon. It’s been nine days since the post about the fix. Is that a long time in Roon World?

Not really because they will probably include this fix in a routine update with multiple other fixes and improvements. Just click on the box, not the purple circle.

Updates are announced here, and as you can see they are roughly monthly. Occasional emergency updates happen only if something serious is happening:
