Roon crashes when scrolling through playlists and albums (ref#YN24IK)

Hello @Richard_Lane

Thank you for the update.

Typically, it is a week or two.

Now we are focused on the customers with the EA build installed to understand if the issue is covered. Please let us know how it goes after installing the next production build.

Ok. i will give it a try then. will report back next week

Hi @Richard_Lane,

Great thank you! We’ll be standing by for you report on how it goes.

Hi @Richard_Lane,

It’s been a while since we last checked in with you. This thread will automatically close soon without a response from you. Are you still experiencing the crashing behavior?

Hi @daniel. I am still getting the crashes (linked to album scrolling and playlists). But I have not tried the early access fix. I looked into it but it looked like too much work for us as we would have to install other apps etc and my family wont do that! So I will have to wait for the official release. It would be good to find out if the memory issue is a hardware limitation of my Roon Nucleus or if it is linked to some issue with the software.

Describe the issue

Describe the issue
Roon keeps crashing when scrolling through playlists and albums, it resets server on crashing. it happens very consistantly (so will be easy to recreate if needed) it is now making the Roon experience very frustrating. Scrollong through by albums can cause a crash (not with the app, but the nucleus or server), but it will almost always crash if I add an album to a playlist.

Describe your network setup

Router - Google Nest Pro (WIFI Mesh). Nucleus connected directly the Google Nest Pro router

i previously had a ticket open for this issue. it was marked as “solved” because thread was idle for a certain number of days. But the problem was not fixed. Most recent update (today, 18th August) makes no difference and crashed straght after installation

Hi @Richard_Lane,

I’ve reopened the previous topic and merged posts so all the history is together.

Tagging @support to follow up with you.

Hey @Richard_Lane,

We’ve recently released a potential fix relating to memory consumption, and so I wanted to check to see how things have performed for you this week.

Are you still crashing? If so, does this happen no matter the remote device?

If yes, please bring the issue remote back online and connect to your Roon Server, and we’ll take another look. Thank you! :folded_hands:

Hi @benjamin thanks for your reply. As I said in my previous message, the new update does not change anything for me. Still freezing when i scroll through roon. Today (21st August) at 08:26 BST it crashed as soon as i started to browse Roon on my Windows Desktop. Was esaily able to replicate the crash on my iphone Roon app at 08:32 when Roon had restarted. Unfortunately for us it is making Roon almost unusable in our household (my Wife has started using the Spotify app now!). So any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Hello @Richard_Lane

Thank you for the update.

Our team is continuously working on improvements and addressing the memory leak issue. A new set of fixes has been introduced in the recent EA build, and the previous improvements have already been merged into the production build.

We understand how frustrating this can be, and as a practical step, we can recommend increasing the amount of RAM on your Nucleus. This should help prevent crashes while further improvements are being rolled out.

Suggested: Crucial DDR4 2666 MHz CL19 2

Suggested amount of RAM: 8GB or 16GB

Requirements: DDR4 2666 MHz CL19 - ECC Type = Non-ECC, Form Factor = SODIMM, Pin Count = 260-pin, PC Speed = PC4-21300, Voltage = 1.2V, Rank and Configuration = 1Rx16, 1Rx8 or 2Rx8

And here is the step-by-step for replacing the RAM. Be sure to make or have a recent Roon backup or two saved!

Power Down and Unplug the Nucleus:

Turn Off the Nucleus by properly shutting it down through the Roon app or web interface.

Unplug all cables, including power and network cables, from the Nucleus.

Open the Nucleus Case:

Remove Screws: Use the screwdriver to remove the screws securing the top cover of the Nucleus.

Lift the Cover: Carefully lift and remove the top cover to access the internal components.

Install the New RAM:

Locate the RAM Slot: Find the RAM slot on the motherboard.

Remove Old RAM (if upgrading): If you’re replacing the existing RAM, gently release the clips and remove the old RAM module.

Insert New RAM: Align the new RAM module with the slot and firmly press it down until it clicks into place, ensuring the clips secure it.

Reassemble the Nucleus:

Replace the Cover: Put the top cover back on and secure it with the screws you removed earlier.

Power On the Nucleus:

Reconnect All Cables and power on the Nucleus.

Check Functionality: Ensure that the Nucleus starts up correctly and that Roon operates as expected.

If you encounter any issues or have any questions during the process, feel free to ask for further assistance!

Please note: The Nucleus Titan/One is sold in a tested and recommended configuration. In the event a user modification results in unexpected behavior or a unit malfunction, warranty coverage can be at risk.

Hi @vadim. Thanks for this. Very helpful. I will try a RAM upgrade. Any preference for 1x16GB or 2x8GB? The 2x 8GB is twice the price.

Hello @Richard_Lane

You can buy a single stick; it wouldn’t decrease performance.
