Is there any intention to allow the use of AFP for NAS drive access. Every other music software I have used can read my AFP NAS drive so I question why you make this demand.

I can’t speak for Roon Inc of course but at a guess it could simply be that AFP is a bit old and decrepit.
Apple themselves made SMB the default network connection protocol back in 2013 with SMB2 and now SMB3.
