Hi
I’m trying to establish whether I actually NEED a separate streamer.
If running Roon on Mac (MacOS Ventura, i5, 16GB) connect via ethernet to DAC (e.g. Schiit Modi) will that work?
Or is a streamer of some sort definitely needed?
TIA

For a DAC to be Roon Ready and not need a streamer, it needs an ethernet connection, the Roon Network Code and to be certified as such by Roon. The Schiit Modi does not have a network connection, so, it would need a device of some kind, be it a PC running RoonBridge or a RoonReady streamer to sit ahead of it.
Why would you not just plug the Modi to the Mac via USB?
Currently running a Roon Core on an M1 Mac Mini, Ventura - connected via USB to a Schitt Modi, through to a Denon X3700H. I couldn’t be happier.
As Big Dan says, you can’t connect ethernet to a Schiit Modi. It doesn’t have that capability. You can plug your Modi into the Mac then connect the Modi to your amp. That’s what Kieran Jameson does and many others on here and it works just fine.
