· Roon will sometimes not advance to the next track in my queue. It's almost always a local file to another local file. It doesn't happen all the time, or even every session or every day, but enough that I notice it.
So for instance, one song will play to the end, but then just hang there instead of advancing to the next track. The information on the first song still displays, but it seems stuck at the very end of the track instead of going to whatever's next my the queue. The queue will continue if I either manually press the next button or I scrub to an earlier part of the song, which will play and advance to the next song correctly once I do that.
I have Roon Radio disabled. I am not using any equipment when this happens aside from the wired headphones plugged into my laptop. I have crossfade turned off and I am not using MUSE or any other that Roon's default audio settings. I've only seen this happen on the laptop where my server is based on, and I don't think I've seen this happen on the tablet I use a remote.
Any idea what causes this and why it's happening? I tried looking for other threads on this, and maybe I'm not wording my searches here right but all of the other threads that were similar didn't have my exact problem.
The issue also doesn't happen consistently with a file: If I add that song to my queue again and play it a second time in full a few minutes later, it will play to completion and move onto the next song as normal.
I have added a 50ms resync delay to the audio zone I'm using (which is the laptop's normal system output) see if that having that turned on solves anything, although all of the files are mp3.
This didn’t happen all day today, and then it happened about 20 minutes ago. Library file hung at the end and did not go to the next song (incidentally it was a Qobuz track). It hung for about 10 minutes before I finally realized music wasn’t playing anymore.
Any idea what’s going on here? At least it’s not a regular thing, it seems, but it’s annoying when it happens.
That kind of stall at the end of a track is worth digging into, especially since it’s affecting both local playback and, at least once, Qobuz.
We’d like to enable diagnostics on your account so we can review what Roon Server is doing around the time this happens. The next time it occurs, please note the exact local time, date, and the track that was playing, then post that here so we can check the logs around it.
In the meantime, a few details would help narrow the path:
How is your RoonServer connected to your network, and is it on WiFi or Ethernet?
When the track hangs, does the progress bar stay pinned at the end, or does the track show as finished while the queue simply does not advance?
If you see it happen again, let us know the timing and the track, and we’ll take a look from there.
For now, my RoonServer is connected via Wifi because my router is not in this room.
The progress bar stays at the very end of the song, say at 4:08 of a 4:08 song and does not advance to the next track.
Next time this happens I’ll take a screenshot.
However, here’s how the two songs from last time show up in my history: The Steeleye Span track is a local Mp3, and the Jawdropped song is on Qobuz. In this instance, when I noticed that “All Around My Hat” was not advancing, I put it back to about 3:58, let the last 10 seconds play again, and then it advanced normally from there.
I’d definitely get a direct ethernet connection from your Server to your primary router temporarily, and see if that helps.
We’re not currently able to enable diagnostics to your server unfortunately, if you could please use the directions found here and send over a set of Roon Server logs to our File Uploader? Once logs have been uploaded, please let us know so that we can check the server for your files, thanks!
We’re glad to hear it @Aquidneck_Lanes! We’ll keep this thread open a bit longer so you have ample time to continue testing with a direct ethernet connection.
Just checking in on this, is the system working properly? If you’re still having any issues, have you had a chance to keep testing with a direct Ethernet connection, as we mentioned?
Please note, if we don’t hear back from you this thread may close automatically soon. If the thread auto-closes and you need further assistance, please submit a reopen support request via the technical support help form below and specify that the issue should be reopened. Thank you.
Since it is now rare rather than gone, one thing would help if it does come back. The logs only cover a limited window and roll over, so a report a few days later usually arrives too late to be useful. If it happens again, please note the exact date, time and your timezone along with the track that stalled, then pull a set of Roon Server logs that same day and upload them here:
A screenshot of the progress bar sitting at the end of the track is useful too, since it distinguishes between the track having actually finished and the queue simply not advancing.
This thread will close on its own after a period of inactivity, which is normal. If it does close and this returns, please submit a reopen request through the form below and mention this thread, and we will pick it straight back up.
