I have downloaded the Roon app to my iPad and to my MacBook Pro running High Sierra. My Nova is connected via cable to an Asus wireless router, and both MacBook and iPad wirelessly to the same router. The app doesn’t find the Nova, including when I type in its network address. What am I doing wrong/not doing please?
Can you post a screenshot of the settings, Audio screen?
If you temporarily connect the Mac running the core via Ethernet does it work?
The Mac isn’t running the Core, as I assumed the Nova does that. I can’t connect the mac direct to ethernet as it hasn’t got a RJ45 socket and I don’t have an adapter…
Roon core will only run on a computer or NAS device and not the Nova. The Nova is a Roon Ready endpoint nothing more. You need to have the core software installed and this needs access to your music files. If you mac is wireless it will still work but maybe not as solid as via wired Ethernet.
many thanks for the help - I knew I was being slow!
When you have installed it and pointed it to your library then goto the audio settings in the core you should see your Nova appear there. You need to add it so you can then choose it to stream to. Choose the Roon Ready option not Airplay as both will be visible.
Thanks so much for your help, I am very grateful
Do you know how it can find the Naim Core which I have burned my CD’s to?
Nope the core can’t share its library via smb only upnp and to other Naim devices. Roon does not support upnp (documented on their forum as to why and it’s their pet hate) it requires network shares or locally attached drives to the core, I am hoping that one day they might update the Uniti core it to be able to do this as it will make it less insular. Same reason I won’t get Roons nucleus as It’s too limiting.
Actually I may be wrong here. I think there is an option for smb share on the core. You may need to enable that and in Roon core you need to put the full network path to it in storage section add network drive. You will new to copy the same url you use in Windows or Mac to access it.
that makes sense. I just need to figure out how to enable options in the Core and to find its path. Homework for tonight! You’ve been very generous with your time and thought, thank you
If ask on the Naim forum. If you get it to work would like to know as I have the Atom and really like the look of the core but only if I can use it outside of upnp and Naim kit as I have lots of other endpoints that are not Naim.
