Does the issue happen with local library music, streaming service music, or both?
· *Both streaming and local* *library* music are affected.
Do you encounter any playback errors with the "System Output" Zone?
· The System Output has *no problem*, it's only my other Zone.
How is the affected Zone connected to your RoonServer machine?
· Cable (USB, HDMI, SPDIF, etc.)
Is your device connected directly to the Roon Server via cable or over the network, or is it chained through another device (such as a streamer, Roon Bridge, or Roon Remote)?
· Connected directly to my RoonServer machine
Does the device show up at all in Roon Settings -> Audio?
· No, it does not show up there
Does the device play audio from another source when using the same connection?
· The device has no problems with another audio source
Have you checked that Roon is whitelisted in any firewalls?
· I've checked the firewall and the issue remains
If the device has multiple output options, do the other options work as expected?
· Only one output type is affected while the other output type works as expected
Is the device using the latest firmware as per the manufacturer?
· Firmware is up-to-date but the issue remains
Do you have an approximate timestamp of when the issue last occurred?
· constant
What are the make and model of the affected audio device(s) and the connection type?
Thank you for your post. We’ve requested automatic diagnostics from the affected RoonServer to inspect why this HDMI endpoint might drop out. Here’s what we’ve found:
There are occasional sample dropouts reported by RoonServer in the network pathway between two playback types:
Internet radio → ROCK → Denon AVR
local storage → ROCK → Denon AVR
Neither of these sample dropouts instances was sufficient to cause an interruption. However, if there are more network hardware components involved than just the Fios router hardwired to ROCK, we’d need to know about them to troubleshoot this particular problem further.
The larger issue is during track transitions on the Denon Zone. The Denon Zone tears down the audio stream when ROCK takes longer than expected to deliver the next track in the queue to the buffer; as a result, the track transition fails, and the Zone stops playback until manually prodded with the play button.
I recommend testing with another audio input available on the Denon X6800H, like AirPlay. Play a local file from Roon - can you reproduce any issues?
Now, test internet radio playback to the Airplay Zone. Do you have any of the same issues?
Please share a screenshot of Signal Path in the HDMI setup as well. Thank you!
Thank you for your post. To clarify - did you encounter any dropouts when using Airplay? What about when using HDMI? Please provide the name of the track was playing, if so.
Logs show what appears to be an erroneous teardown (a stop event interrupting playback between tracks), but it occurred with a different endpoint than the Denon AVR. In this case, Live Radio loaded slowly and the endpoint effectively went to sleep before it queued the next track.
Do you have any network hardware other than the Verizon-provided router?
Conner, Airplay 2 works fine no dropouts. The HDMI is the problem. FWIW, the Denon ethernet cable was plugged in to a network switch. I moved that cable directly into the Fios router. Now the NUC and Denon a plugged directly to the router. Same dropouts from the NUC.
Also, I use My Live Radio for most of listening, stations are WQXR, KQOC, WCRB and KUAC. IF listening to MY Music, the files are stored on the NUC.
Just to triple-check, do you have multiple subnets active within your local network? If so, can you test out disabling one of the subnets to confirm all your Roon devices are functioning within the same local subnet?
If you haven’t yet, it may be good to reboot your router as well as your ROCK, and see if the same issues occur.
