Describe the issue
Roon freezes occasionally, sometimes resuming after a few seconds and sometimes taking far longer (in the latter case the clients report that the server can't be reached).
Replicated on two Linn players controlled from MacOS and iPadOS; and on an iPad playing on itself.
I am thinking that this may be some sort of networking hardware problem on the server (Intel NUC running Dietpi; wired ethernet; unified switches). However during these breaks, I get uninterrupted pings from server to gateway and from client to server.
Logs uploaded.
Logs seem to contain lots of "no data received for >10000ms. Killing connection" about the time of the issues.
Also some unexpected "network reachability changed. refreshing" although those do not coincide with the issues reported here.
Describe your network setup
500MB cable connection -> Unifi UXG -> Unify switches -> ROCK on DietPi on Intel NUC. Players Ethernet (Linn) and wifi (iPad) connected.
I think the next step here is to enable some diagnostics on your account so our technical staff can get some more insight into what’s going on here.
However, before I enable this feature, I’d like to ask for your help ensuring we gather the right information.
First, can you please reproduce the issue once more and note the time at which the error occurs. Then respond here with that time, and I’ll make sure we review the diagnostics related to that timestamp.
Thanks. I’ve temporarily moved my Roon backend to a Mac — so far demonstrating that the issue is not a problem with endpoints or network. It will be a few days before I can move it back to the NUC where the problem is arising.
Meanwhile you should have a good set of logs which I uploaded before I shut down the NUC. Please look at 2025-09-27 around 14:57
We’re not seeing any logs uploaded, unfortunately, could you please send over a set of logs to our File Uploader? Once logs have been uploaded, please let us know so that we can check the server for your files, thanks!
As a next step in troubleshooting, I’d be curious to see how things function with a bare bones, simplified network chain - temporarily.
Could you get your Roon Server with a direct ethernet connection to your primary router? Ideally, do the same with one of your remotes, but I understand that may not be possible. Give your router and server a reboot in this setup, and let me know how things perform. Thank you!
I have not yet been able to colocate the server and our router (it’s a complex house) but have done this and am getting similar issues:
server moved to Mac (hopefully to eliminate the NUC)
playback on Linn player AND on the Mac itself (to eliminate Linn player)
play freezes, sometimes restarting and sometimes requiring Play to be pressed again
sometimes we get “Oh oh something is wrong” or “waiting for your Roon server”
Logs sent. Example times:
10/12 12:51 player stopped (playing to Linn)
10/12 12:59 brief break before resuming by itself
10/12 13:36 playing on the Mac speakers rather than Linn, playing stopped
10/12 13:45 “something’s not right” message
This is a Mac Studio running MacOS Tahoe 26.0.1, hardwired ethernet to a Unifi router and thence to Unifi gateway (UXG-Pro) and a 500Mb cable connection. Would appreciate any thoughts.
The log you have shared seem to be a log from the client side of Roon.
For better understanding we’d appreciate if you could share a Server logs too .
In the Library folder it’s named “Roon Server” and lies next to just “Roon” folder.
Can you please upload logs from “Roon Server” folder too ?
And the other thing to notice is you have changed the Roon Server (your mac) and your endpoint (your Mac). And since you’re playing on the same device it looks like the problem is not in the connection of Roon Server to endpoint.
The only thing that remained the same is NAS standing somewhere in your local network.
Can you please try to move few albums to local storage of your Mac and try to play music from there. Let us know please whether it is going to having same issues.
Thanks. I will try some local content when I have a moment. However please note that all the playback I’ve been testing with is streamed from Qobuz, not served from the NAS.
I’ve uploaded server logs now, sorry about that. Same time-stamps as referenced above.
