Roon Extension : RHEOS 2-way control & 192Hz/24bit Playback and Grouping on Denon/Marantz HEOS devices now in Extension Manager

Yes - switching between airplay and Heos causes confusion.

Trying various approaches that hopefully will be part of a new release. Not ready for prime time yet !

Go to extension manager and under global settings you can trigger collect logs. Send the output by email to me or use Dropbox or similar.

@peter_richardson Just checking in on the thread and RHEOS software development. Any new ideas for the development roadmap?

RHEOS and my whole setup is working well on my end. I just added a second Marantz 40n to the mix (got a great open box deal) and, while not really a RHEOS issue, I just love the fact that both receivers turn on automatically whether grouped or alone. Iā€™m also generally grouping some combination of these two receivers and/or HEOS home speakers so it is all working much more smoothly with no AVRs in the mix.

Hi Kent,

Good to hear. Are you meaning simpler without using secondary zones on the AVRs? Groups and other features should work fine mixing an AVR with a heos player.

Am working on version 10 and really hoping this will bring metadata display on AVRs and album art in the Heos app as well as some minor bug fixes.

Hopefully in the next days for a test version. Keep posted!

The issue with AVRā€™s is that when you have one, it will turn on automatically when music is detected, but with group of 2 AVRs, neither will turn on automatically. The 40n, however, turns on with one or two, or probably 10. Basically, it is like the home speakers that just turn on and off as needed.

Probably me being OCD, but having to manually turn on the two AVRs just drove me a little crazy and the sound of the 40n is very very good.

Version 10 sounds great and Iā€™m ready to test. The unifi network stuff is all dialed in, so I have a stable environment now. Unfortunately, the 40n lacks any ability to display metadata (they are also tucked away in my cellar, so not an issue),

Thanks for the feedback. Iā€™ll definitely look at the power control of grouped AVRs - probably not in this release however.

The 40n has the standard Marantz porthole so basic meta data will be displayed - but probably not worth a visit to the cellar to observe!

I have one small point which could be solved maybe @peter_richardson. After an automatic or manual successful refresh/search for my players the units will get only a resolution of ā€žCD qualityā€œ instead of ā€žPasstroughā€œ. But it is not a big deal at all.

The Model 40n has no metadata display at all, you only ever get the input source displayed.

Thanks Enno. Iā€™ll see if I can replicate and fix if needed. Only a problem if I am issuing frequent upgrades. Its been good to have this stable for 3 months will little need to ā€œfixā€. Given ne a chance to explore some different functionality which may be of interesting for some users - just ironing out a few remaining bugs before asking for further testing.

Try using the Heos app or airplay and see what is on the screen. Usually a track title and the progress in seconds is shown in the porthole. Using Sqeeze2UPnP my devices will show ā€œStreaming from LMSā€.

The 40n has the standard porthole (iconic Marantz but not very useful for displays) or did they change this with the new series? I remember you previously saying you enabled ā€œStreaming from LMSā€ as you liked to be able to see it ā€˜on

Yes the app does but you get nothing on its display for any source

By the way - just crossed 14,000 downloads from docker ā€¦

Do you not get playing from LMS in the ā€œportholeā€ when you turn on metadata?

No as I said no apps will show anything. Not even HEOS. You get source input only for HEOS just shows HEOS Streaming or Airplay or Spotify or Tidal nothing more not even sample rates.

Interesting - thatā€™s different from the SR series. I may need to make an investment in a new Marantz AVR - anyone else with a Cinema series or the 40n have input?

Denon AVRs or Network player have a 3 line screen that is useful and I can show album. title and artist quite nicely but Iā€™ve had to modify the underling squeeze2upnp C code and recompile - so am carefully testing to make sure it has no adverse effects.

Really love this extension! My old Heos HS2 was sitting in a corner but is taking fully part in the Roon ecosystem. Thx a lot for creating this.

I have two questions:

  1. I am using the Appgineer Roon extension manager and tried to update the extension to the latest but it is still on version 0.8.6-0, is this correct?
  2. In order to save energy I would like to switch of the HEOS at night etc. However I then do need to restart the rheos extension before HEOS can be found. Has anyone a suggestion how to implement this automatically?

Nope it should auto discover every time. I donā€™t have any issues turning off my devices. You donā€™t need fo restart the extension.

0.9.5.2 is the latest version, are your using extension manager to update it? Check itā€™s on the latest version of the extension repository.

Thanks.

Crystalgipsy is correct. Please update to the latest version.

The HS2 (and other HS or Home devices) donā€™t power on or off like the avrs and amplifiers.

They stay in network standby.

The only option is to unplug - the latest version will rediscover after a minute or two one they are reconnected.

I leave mine permanently on with no issues.

Assuming this is an HS2 link ā€¦

Thx to both of you, I reinstalled the extension manager and now I have the Rheos version 0.9.5.2 hopefully this one will automatically discover the HEOS speaker automatically after turning it on again
