Roon Extension : RHEOS 2-way control & 192Hz/24bit Playback and Grouping on Denon/Marantz HEOS devices now in Extension Manager

Hi,

Sorry for being off air! Nothing has changed with to old version of RHEOS so suggest you try a reinstall. it was working in the past. Still working hard on getting a new version out but it’s a total rethink and taking longer than anticipated.

If a reinstall doesn’t help maybe you can give me some logs or we can look for a solution to bridge to the new release…

No prob.

And indeed: I had to restart ROCK. I noticed this because there were also problems on the SONOS players in the adjoining rooms.

If I can help with testing the latest version, I’d be happy to.

I just couldn’t get it to work.

Will enlist when I am confident it’s working as designed! Thanks.

Firstly thanks for the extension. It is the “awesomeness” when its working. I have been running the extension from latest docker image and it was working. However, it stopped working just recently. After a long time checking firewalls and settings I tried using the container tag as “Test”. Kind of a “I hope this work”, but it kicked itself back into life. I’m not sure but maybe the latest version of the Roon server cause the extension to stop working. Has anyone else found this? From what I could tell, the “latest” version was not able to listen for the SqueezeBox connections. The only thing I am finding the the “Test” container is that there is a breif pause a few seconds into each new song. Happy to help test out updated releases.

I’d strongly advise against test at the moment - I am working very hard on a true version 2 and it will be awesome - I hope! However, it’s been a bear as I’ve had to dig into c code and really take this apart. Please be patient and use the original versions until I post on the forum that I am looking for brave souls to test with me Apologies for it taking so long but until I have it working on my system I don’t want to subject others to the pain!

I’ll be your huckleberry

I can SSH into the synology nas and run docker commands vs the front end portainer I usually use if that helps - its an AMD Ryzen 64bit/x86 architecture as a reminder. I can see about manually building the image if needed…

edit: I have been using the good Dr.’s rooUpnp - very stable BUT you need to use HEOS to pre-group the devices as it cannot handle timing via Roon groups AND you have to use HEOS to control volume of each device too as Roon thinks it’s just playing to one of them.

my environment is a good test bed for you (read pain in the arse): mix of V2 devices (marantz SR7012, heos 5 and 7 along with newer devices like Marantz M1 and denon 150 and 550 sound bar – the later three act more stable than the older heos/marantz stuff)

Hopefully reaching out soon - sorry its taking a while but I’m working hard!!!

I appreciate the hard work to do this. Thank you.

Hi peter

I’m just checking in if there’s any updates on Rheos.

I know you’re working on a possible update.

John

Yes working on it every day! It’s a total re write that still has some bugs that make it not ready for prime time - but I remain hopeful that I will get there. If I do, it will have all the old functionality and a lot more.

If you could share with me the specifics of your set up I can see if you might be able to alpha test when I get there - if you are at all interested. Anyone else that is interested should watch the thread and I’ll share when its working to my satisfaction (i.e. perfectly on my systems). Do let me know if you remain interested.

still interested here - I use the good DrCWO’s upnp right now - but it cannot group the devices - and it gets the zombie play if left paused for too long.. (on restarting a track or even picking a new playlist it sits at the same time spot or zero but says its playing and you have to bump the timebar)

Yes Squeeze2UPnP is fundamentally flawed for ROON. I have dropped completely and that’s what is taking a long time to iron out edge cases. Getting there but you can imagine this is some heavy coding.
