roon failed to initialize the audio device when it changes sample ratres

Hi there, I’m opening a new topic here, although it was previously discussed in another post.

I’m using a Mac running macOS 26.1, and since I updated to this latest version, I have been experiencing problems with Roon. First, it would not initialize after clicking the icon, which has been resolved with the latest update of Roon (now running build 1582). But another problem I have been experiencing is that, when I’m playing some playlist that has tracks in different sample rates, it gives an error, “unable to initialize audio device.”

I’m not even using a complicated setup, nor a nucleus, nor any network-connected device. I’m using a desktop DAC and headphone amplifier connected by USB. Specifically, an iFi Zen DAC Version 3 with the latest firmware offered by the support page of the product.

So, to not experience these errors, I have been creating playlists with tracks in the same sample rate, but this is unacceptable. Running the Roon app in the previous version of macOS, I never experienced any of these occurrences before.

So, I’m reporting these issues, hoping they are corrected soon, in the next update or patch.

Thanks for your attention to these matters.

This is a known issue with Tahoe when using local Apple Coreaudio and a directly attached DAC (not with external servers like Nucleus etc). A fix is available in Roon’s Early Access version, and hopefully will be in production soon. Until then, if you don’t want to switch to Early Access temporarily, there are workarounds like resampling everything to the same sample rate with Roon’s MUSE (DSP). See here:

Good day @JC_138 !

What @Suedkiez saying is correct.

We can recommend you to try out Early Access version which is likely to solve your problem.

Please do not forget to make a backup from current instance of Roon and don’t forget to roll back to stable build once the release including fix is deployed.

Thanks.

Have a nice day!

Regards.

Any idea when production release is available?

Good day @Ulf_Silbersky !

There is no official confirmation on it at this moment.

Probably within few weeks, but please do not consider this as official ETA.

Regards.

Thanks for letting me know
