Hi @Christopher_Rogers,
Thanks for reaching out to us about this issue. I have a few things to verify to make to narrow down where the problem is coming from.

  1. What device is the AE-9 connected to and what connection type are you using?
  2. Does Roon list the AE-9 in the Roon settings → Audio page?
  3. Have you performed a restart on the Roon server, the device the AE-9 is connected to and the AE-9 itself?
  4. Is Roon able to play to system output on the computer that the AE-9 is connected to?
  1. AE-9 connected to custom PC Windows 11 64 Running 128 RAM intel i9 chip

  2. Yes

  3. Yes

  4. Yes

The ASIO4ALL interface shows the AE-9 as connected and running

Under ROON Audio, the AE-9 is displayed as enabled for WASPI PCM and for ASIO DSD Native. Plays the WASPI option however converts DSD files to PCM

I hope the attached photos help.

ASIO4ALL Interface

Hey @Christopher_Rogers,

Thanks for the additional information and screenshots. It could be the case here that ASIO4ALL is a generic driver that may not fully support all hardware features, including native DSD playback. Creative provides official ASIO drivers for the AE-9, which are more likely to support native DSD. Have you attempted to download this version of the ASIO driver?

What happens if you test out disabling direct mode?

When you’ve selected the AE-9 via Asio under Roon Settings>Audio, can you check to ensure that the DSD Playback Strategy is set to “Native” if available?

We’ll be monitoring for your reply!

Thank you so much for your support. I could not find the the Creative ASIO driver download. Perhaps the ASIO driver is embedded within general Windows Driver Download?

(please see photo)

Using AE-9 Direct Mode enabled or disabled does not make a difference.

Yes, ROON Audio DSD Strategy set to Native,

Again, Thank you

Christopher

I do not know if this screenshot of the AE-9 Playback Settings will help.

Hi @Christopher_Rogers,

I am unsure of this, perhaps it may be worth getting in touch with Creative Worldwide directly to obtain such information.

With that, could you please attempt to reproduce the issue, and then use the directions found here and send over a set of Roon Server logs to our File Uploader?

Another area to test could be to temporarily use a different machine to run Roon Server, and see if you’re able to successfully enable the AE-9, if you have another machine to do so with.

Thank you!

Thank you Benjamin for continuing to help me.

This Saturday I will attempt to follow your directions. However, I am not computer savvy.

Again, thank you

Christopher

Hi @Christopher_Rogers,
We’ll be on the look out for your response.

Benjamin,

I am truly sorry that my sorrowful lack of IT competency leaves unable to follow your instructions. I cannot count the number of days/attempts I tried.

Basically, I get a message “Device Unavailable”. This is for the SB AE-9 card.

And, yes the AE-9 ASIO driver is embedded within the SB AE-9 master download. At least I found out that much. (This issue was raised in a earlier post.)

I know this does not leave you much to work with but thank you for trying to help me.

Christopher

An odd surprise: After this morning’s update the issue has been resolved. ASIO Native DSD plays beautifully through the AE-9 sound card.

Of course, I like many others have no idea what today’s update entails. The mystery of ROON.

Thank you all for helping me. I only wish I was able to follow your suggestions.

Now if I could only get ROON to recognize (see) my new Gustard X30. Bummer
