Is your device connected directly to the Roon Server via cable or over the network, or is it chained through another device (such as a streamer, Roon Bridge, or Roon Remote)?
· It is connected through a different device (e.g Rasberry Pi)
Does the device play audio from another source when using the same connection?
· The device has no problems with another audio source
Have you checked that Roon is whitelisted in any firewalls?
· I've checked the firewall and the issue remains
If the device has multiple output options, do the other options work as expected?
· Only one output type is affected while the other output type works as expected
Is the device using the latest firmware as per the manufacturer?
· Firmware is up-to-date but the issue remains
What are the make and model of the affected audio device(s) and the connection type?
· Sound Blaster AE-9
Describe the issue
ROON does not enable/activate Sound Blaster AE-9 ASIO DSD Native. AE-9 set to Direct Mode. ASIO installed using ASIO4ALL version 2.6 (https://asio4all.org/about/download-asio4all/) with Offline Settings. Windows 11 64. WASPI PCM works.
Hi @Christopher_Rogers,
Thanks for reaching out to us about this issue. I have a few things to verify to make to narrow down where the problem is coming from.
What device is the AE-9 connected to and what connection type are you using?
Does Roon list the AE-9 in the Roon settings → Audio page?
Have you performed a restart on the Roon server, the device the AE-9 is connected to and the AE-9 itself?
Is Roon able to play to system output on the computer that the AE-9 is connected to?
Thanks for the additional information and screenshots. It could be the case here that ASIO4ALL is a generic driver that may not fully support all hardware features, including native DSD playback. Creative provides official ASIO drivers for the AE-9, which are more likely to support native DSD. Have you attempted to download this version of the ASIO driver?
What happens if you test out disabling direct mode?
When you’ve selected the AE-9 via Asio under Roon Settings>Audio, can you check to ensure that the DSD Playback Strategy is set to “Native” if available?
Thank you so much for your support. I could not find the the Creative ASIO driver download. Perhaps the ASIO driver is embedded within general Windows Driver Download?
I am unsure of this, perhaps it may be worth getting in touch with Creative Worldwide directly to obtain such information.
With that, could you please attempt to reproduce the issue, and then use the directions found here and send over a set of Roon Server logs to our File Uploader?
Another area to test could be to temporarily use a different machine to run Roon Server, and see if you’re able to successfully enable the AE-9, if you have another machine to do so with.
I am truly sorry that my sorrowful lack of IT competency leaves unable to follow your instructions. I cannot count the number of days/attempts I tried.
Basically, I get a message “Device Unavailable”. This is for the SB AE-9 card.
And, yes the AE-9 ASIO driver is embedded within the SB AE-9 master download. At least I found out that much. (This issue was raised in a earlier post.)
I know this does not leave you much to work with but thank you for trying to help me.
