Roon server runs on a powerful Windows 11 Pro PC with Atlas OS on top of it. The server machine has Intel I350 NIC card and from there it's connected to a Netgear GS108E switch and from the switch I connect to Holo Audio Red streamer and so on. Router is in another Room and not directly on streaming path, it's Asus ZenWIFI AX.
Do you see these skipped items in Settings → Library → Skipped Files?
Are there any error messages displayed in Roon when you attempt to import tracks?
If there’s an album that repeatedly fails to import fully, please upload the album here for our team to attempt to reproduce the issue internally: Media Uploader.
This happens with every single album I add, no matter if it’s Hi-Res or redbook. All my files are in FLAC format. The missing track is always either 2. or 3. track of the album. All the other tracks get imported real time when I copy the new album to my media folder. Only way to get the missing track imported, is to restart Roon server. Then it imports all the tracks. And it’s always just one track missing from the real time import.
No error messages and no, the files aren’t visible on the skipped files section.
Another test for you to try - if you temporarily disable your watched folder in Roon>then add/import your new tracks>then re-enable your watched folder, do any files get skipped?
First I tried to locate the missing tracks with the Find Tracks by Path function but the tracks weren’t visible there.
Then I checked the Skipped Tracks under Library and now the missing tracks were visible there, unlike last time. For reason, it says “I/O failure”. I imported two albums to the library and for both albums, it was track 2. which was missing. They are both there on the skipped tracks list.
Thanks, I didn’t find this thread since at that point I didn’t know that the reason is I/O failure. In my case, restarting the server solves the issue also and the album gets imported fully after that. You can merge my report in that thread if possible, thank you.
One more finding about this problem. Tonight I imported two albums to my library and once again, one track per album was missing. Well I just let it be and thought that I will restart the server app later. Then I did some rewiring of my setup in between and disconnected the switch so that I lost the network connection to the server. Then I reconnected the switch and after I reconnected it and network connection got restored, Roon found the missing tracks. I didn’t reboot the server in between. So it was enough for Roon that the network connection got reset, to find the missing tracks.
Once again, a mysterious problem with Roon. Well it has been a few trouble free years so I guess it was time for something to come up again.
I have the exact same issue. It’s been going on for about 4-6 weeks now. Obviously some sort of software glitch with Roon that hasn’t been corrected yet. Something you can do instead of rebooting every time is to just make one small edit to the name of the folder containing the album tracks and doing so will cause Roon to rescan again at which point it generally picks up the missing tracks. If it’s an album with a lot of tracks you may have to do the renaming thing more than once but generally not.
Example, if the folder containing the album is named: “Billy Joel - The Stranger”, just put an extra letter or space in the name, let Roon do its quick rescan and all tracks should then be imported. Then go back and delete the extra letter or space to tidy up the folder name and you’re good to go. The tidying up of the folder name also causes Roon to rescan it again, so in the event you still had missing tracks after the first rescan, the second one should do the trick.
We shouldn’t have to do this sort of thing, but at least it’s an easy workaround until they fix the bug.
Our current theory is that while Roon is trying to import the files, it sees the files in-transit and this is what is causing the tracks to be missing. While we investigate and address the root cause on the dev side of things, the theory here is that if Roon does not see the folder until after the files have settled (either by having RoonServer powered down off the folder disabled in Roon Settings → Storage), then the import should work correctly. Can you confirm if this is true in your case as well?
Thanks for the update - as @BlackJack has mentioned, we have a ticket in with development for a fix to this issue, which will be pushed to an upcoming Roon update soon.
There aren’t any additional details needed at this time, so we will go ahead and close the thread for the time being, and the fix will be added to our software release notes when it’s included in the respective update - you can keep track here:
