· I am unable to get Roon to boot up on my server, computer, or any of my devices (2 iPads and 2 iPhones) where I have the Roon app installed. Before the most recent Roon app upgrade, things were not working well. Since the upgrade, it has been impossible to get Roon to open on any of the above devices.
Thanks for writing in and for sharing your report! Since you mentioned the NUC seems inoperable, we need to determine if it is a hardware failure or a software hang.
Completely shut down the NUC and the RedWolf server. Unplug their power cables for 30 seconds, then plug them back in and restart.
Do you see any LED activity on the NUC's power button or the Ethernet port on the back? If there are no lights at all, the power supply (the "brick") may have failed.
With that, Roon is highly sensitive to how network switches handle "multicast" traffic, which is how the apps find the server.
As a test, try plugging the Roon NUC (or RedWolf) directly into the main Orbi router rather than the Ubiquiti switch. If the apps suddenly see the server, the issue lies in the Ubiquiti switch settings (specifically a setting called IGMP Snooping which can sometimes block Roon after an update).
Log into your Orbi app or web interface. Look at the "Connected Devices" list. Is the NUC or RedWolf showing up with an active IP address? If it isn't in the list, the server isn't communicating with your network.
Let us know if either of the above help, thank you! 🙏
I have the same issue, network keeps dropping and unable to connect to Roon Nucleus. It was working this morning. Nucleus is connected via Ethernet and confirmed speed is at max 900mb
I performed the NUC and RedWolf shutdown and restart before I submitted my support request and again after reading your response. Afterwards, I could get Roon to reload enough to give me the opportunity to choose between two devices (Redwolf and NUC).
I tried selecting the NUC and got the infamous white screen with the blinking Roon icon. I was able to shut it down and reboot it in order to try the RedWolf and managed to get the same “blinkin’” response. This was all done on the monitor associated with the RedWolf.
I should mention that I have two lifetime Roon memberships, one for the RedWolf and one for the NUC.
I have also tried to do access Roon on my laptop monitor, my iPhone, and my two iPads – all with the same results.
There is (and always has been) LED activity on the NUC power button (other than when I shut it off).
I also went to my Orbi interface and discovered that the NUC and the RedWolf appear on the Devices Screen.
Other than not working, everything seems like it should be working.
I’d also like to mention that sometimes, when Roon seems to be (almost) working, I am asked to log in with my account name and password – It gets “stuck” processing the request.
We have analyzed the diagnostics report from your Roon instance and could have spotted that your client almost all the time cannot connect to the Server because of timeouts.
It can normally discover it, but cannot connect because TCP traffic is being lost.
For the test purpose, we’d like to ask you to try to connect both your Roon Server machine and laptop (Remote) to the Router bypassing the switch.
If it won’t be failing then it means that switch is a culprit here.
Orbi mesh networks have some multicast features that we’ve found can interfere with Roon device discovery announcements, particularly on larger networks with multiple hops.
Please, at your convenience, double-check that you’ve tried some of the suggestions here:
Where is your server hardwired in your network topology, relative to the mesh nodes that serve your remotes?
We’re going to allow this thread to auto-close since it hasn’t received a response, but if you’re still encountering intermittent connectivity issues, we strongly recommend perusing the documentation shared in the post above.
Please also ensure that you’ve toggled local network permissions for Roon in any MacOS and iOS devices in Settings → Privacy & Security.
You can reactivate this topic thread anytime by submitting a new support request here. Thank you!
