Describe the issue

Roon on an up to date W11 PC. Library storage on USB drive. Streaming via Qobuz in Roon. Two zones: System output (NVidia GTX3090 via HDMI to Theta Casablanca V processor) and Realtek SPDIF to external DAC.

System output works in JRiver, in the Qobuz player, and in any W11 tests. Inside Roon, SPDIF drives the external DAC (SPDIF) without a problem. However, Roon will not play via the NVidia system output. Nothing playing or too many errors messages.

Have cold booted everything. Uninstalled and reinstalled the audio devices. Un/Re for Roon also. Disabled/Reenabled system output in Roon. Checked cables. Nothing helps. Strange thing is the program was running fine until just now.

One possible issue. I installed HQPlayer today and was trying it with Roon. Changing filters in HQP caused constant lockups so I disabled it in Roon. My play failure problem started after that trial of HQP. I uninstalled HQP when I first had the Roon play failure, but that made no difference.

Describe your network setup

Ethernet from an ARRIS TG3452A cable modem. No issues with the network and no changes since Roon was running well.

Good day @peter_ramm !

I hope you’re doing well today.

We’re sorry to see that you face this kind of an issue.

Before we proceed to the next steps please make sure that HQPlayer is no longer associated with Roon and deleted.

After that, please try to do the following:

  1. Right-click the speaker icon → Sound Settings → More sound settings.

  2. Under Playback, locate your NVIDIA High Definition Audio (HDMI) device → Properties.

  3. Open the Advanced tab and set Default Format to 24-bit, 48000 Hz (or 44.1 kHz if 48 is unavailable)

  4. Try toggling the exclusive mode setting:

  • Enable Allow applications to take exclusive control
  • If playback still fails → disable it and test again.
5) In Roon, in the Audio Settings please try to retoggle the exclusive mode and set the format to the same as you did to NVIDIA output in windows settings.

Let us know please whether it works.

Thanks!

Regards.
