Describe the issue

Roon won't start up on Mac OS (only)

Describe your network setup

Regular setup, nothing changed

To explain, it works on my iPhone, iPad, etc. No issue with the server thus. Restarted the server anyway, still the same. Restarted the Mac also. Any help is much appreciated.

Using Mac OS Sequoia 15.3.2 (most recent).

Hi @909,

If you open Activity Monitor (Applications → Utilities), do you see an instance of the Roon GUI already open?

In any case, try the following:

  • Create a Backup of your current database, just in case, using another remote
  • Exit out of Roon on the Mac
  • Navigate to your Roon Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “Roon”
  • Rename the “Roon” folder to “Roon_old”
  • Reinstall the Roon App from our Downloads Page to generate a new Roon folder and instance of the GUI

Please let us know if this helps.

Thanks – I am trying to find the folder you mentioned. It looks like there is no folder simply called “Roon” on my ROCK machine. See screenshot. Can you help?

I now see that you mean the databas on Mac OS directly? There, I can find it. Please do confirm.

Hi @909,
Yes, the Roon folder on your Mac is the folder you want to rename. Once you’ve performed the reinstall let us know if there is any improvement.

@909,

In the Finder, navigate to your user’s Library folder on your Mac.

You may have to do this.

‘Roon’ is one of the macOS user Library subfolders.

Thanks again! I did what you suggested, however the Roon software on the Mac still does not find the core. See the sreenshot: It just keeps searching. What should I do?

Hey @909 ,

Can you please navigate to macOS System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network , and make sure Roon is allowed. If it is already enabled, toggle it off and on again. Then reboot your Mac, and see if the same issue persists.

YES!! That did it. Thanks a lot. Assuming this happened due to a Mac OS Update.
Many thanks!!

Glad to hear it @909! Please reach out in a new topic thread if something else comes up.

Users have broadly reported the more recent MacOS Sequoia updates (15.3.3) to interfere less with Roon’s network connection. You may still have to toggle this privacy setting on/off if you encounter this state again.
